Saw this in an article on Mathieu:

https://ftw.usatoday.com/2020/01/2020-super-bowl-tyrann-mathieu-chiefs-49ers

"As good as Mathieu has been throughout the regular season and playoffs, the Chiefs will need him to be at his best against the 49ers. Jimmy Garoppolo led the entire NFL in Expected Points Added on throws to tight ends and slot receivers. That's Mathieu's territory, so he'll surely be tested. Testing Mathieu hasn't been a good strategy this season, however. Based on EPA, the Chiefs have been the league's best defense against throws to slots and tight ends. That's all Mathieu."

This is why I said 2 Sundays ago that Mathieu is the only Chief I am worried about. That boy is from where my people are from and I know how he thinks

Mathieu is a playmaker. There's a size mismatch if he's trying to cover Kittle 1v1, but if Mathieu is roaming around the middle of the field as a zone defender, Jimmy needs to be mindful of where he's at on the field.

I imagine Mathieu will be the 8th man in the box and will be assigned to help stop the run. I can see Kyle running those zone reads with Deebo running those slants behind the playaction just like he did against Seattle week 17. That play design was killing Seattle's defense. Bottom line, we get the run game going, it will be damn near impossible for KC's defense to stop our offense.

I think theyll put Sorenson in the box. I dont see them trusting Sorenson in coverage over Mathieu

Works for me Sorensen is poop vs the run. He's really not very good in general.

Hopefully Mathieu isn't as disruptive at Arizona's Budda Baker. That guy gave the Niners fits this year.

Mehh Kittle owned him. Look at who gets beat in man coverage, then later in the play gets stiff armed to death as Kittle walks in the end zone - and this is after the leg injury that put him out a few games after this fame

Tyreek Hill? Whatever. Over-rated.
Games he played with Mahomes this year including playoffs:

5-67 2TDS
3-41
4-61
5-72
5-80 2TDS
5-67 2TDS
6-62
5-55
11-157.
One one-hundred yard game in 9 contests. Rather face Hill than Adams or Thomas anyday. And those guys don't beat up their kids.

Come on, Niners, win, man, win. Come on, win.
every sports analyst on the planet is saying that Mahomes is probably going to be the greatest QB ever. What is wrong with these people? At the end of the day, they'll say that about any QB that is winning in an exciting manner. Said the same thing about Kaepernick before the rest of the league figured out how to stop him. Let's maybe wait until dude has done it for 10 years before starting the GOAT talk.

And boom goes the dynamite.

Yes and yes. We can still control TOP while passing more. We will probably come out throwing to put up points. I would wager that we at least throw on 3rd and long even if we have a lead to keep Mahomes off the field. We'll see how the game unfolds and what Shanahan decides to do.

I'm betting half of them are on video saying the same thing about Jackson a month ago.

Having faced Lamar Jackson, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson twice, Aaron Rogers twice, and Kyler Murray twice, I think the Niners have been tested and are prepared. They have faced all of the best, and they are the number one pass defense in the league.
Ok so while I like that the Niners players are lose enough to play a prank on Kyle and jersey swap for practice, Kyles comment gives me pause:

"They surprised us with it," Shanahan said via Vrentas. "They are loose and feeling good, and they had fun with it. We'll see how it is when we watch film."

In dissecting film having to stop and think who is who hurts the efficiency of the session. I'm not sure an almost rain-man-like Kyle is going to be too happy in that process. He's so meticulous and perfectionistic that this one could backfire.

Yep. Greatest QB ever, going to change the game, unstoppable.

There is always someone that the media attaches onto. Think it started with Marino.

Whats funny is when someone brings up the point that the best QB doesn't normally win the Superbowl when playing the best Defense, they just say, "Well Mahomes is a mobile QB so he is different than all the other QB's that lost".

Its true though, the Pats couldn't stop Wilson in SB XLIX and the Broncos couldn't stop 'Superman' in SB 50!

Nah, Tony Dungy - in an interview with Matt Miococo basically said the 49ers got this in the bag and the game won't even be close. It's going to be really simple. 49er are going to run it down KC"s throat and basically sack Mahomes. Good 'ol 49er football at its finest. If Baltimore, Vikings, and Green Bay couldn't stop Kyle's run game, I have a hard time believing KC can either. And if they do - they probably have to play some sort of weird exotic run defense that Kyle will just play pass out of.

Michael Strahan basically said the way they shut down the Patriots offense was the pass rush. Patriots couldn't handle the NY Giant's pass rush and basically that's how NY beat the Pats in that super bowl. He sees the same thing with the 49ers in how the DLine for the 49ers have the ability to shut down Mahomes and that explosive offense. I agree with Tony and Michael.
