IMO, the narrative being perpetuated by the media is just simply the laziest and easiest way for them to get people to watch the game. These are clearly just talking points, and not at all thoughtful analysis. All I've heard, or at least predominantly is: "How do the 49ers stop Mahomes?"
That. Is. Lazy. But... I do think it's the most effective way to get people to watch the game.
Contrast that with the handful of respectful talking heads who actually do their homework, where you're more likely to hear (at least in addition to the above):
How does KC stop the run?
How will Mahomes react to pressure up front with 7 in coverage?
What if the 49ers jump out to an early lead?
Obviously, those are just a couple of basic thoughts amidst many and far more in-depth ideas, but the point is the same. Why would the media want to sew any doubt about Mahomes and the Chiefs at all? That would only make A.) More work for the talking head, and B.) Make the layman fan have to think too hard.
Just look at THIS YEAR alone. See 49ers Talking Points throughout the season:
Who have they played?
What if JG has to win a game on his own?
What if the 49ers can't run the ball?
What if the defense has an off game?
Just my .02, but... I for one have zero reason to give any of this media coverage half an ear for the aforementioned reasons. I just think the TRUTH is more difficult to talk about, and probably much more painful for most to choke down. Oh yeah, one more thing...
