High ankle sprain: torn or partially torn ligament.
Ankle sprain: torn or partially torn muscle.

Ligaments: connect bone to bone.
Tendon: connects bone to muscle.
Muscles: Softest tissue: heals much quicker.

We don't really know what the injury is outside of an ankle injury.

It's a very weird situation. No question he got hurt and we know why.

What we don't know is the severity of the injury.

Original reports and comments from Saleh indicated the injury was minor. MRI results were apparently a minor ankle issue.

Then Lynch and Shanahan gave us the "significant ankle injury" and Lynch threw our "some high ankle sprain components"

It's possible this actually is a serious ankle injury and he'll miss regular season games and if that happens it makes sense to sit him until week 5 as we have our week 4 bye week. Hope that we can sneak by in that 3 game stretch at 2-1 at worst and have Nick back 100% for the rest of the run.

It's also possible that Lynch and Shanahan realized the injury wasn't that bad but they've seen enough from Nick where they don't need him going back out there in preseason or training camp and want to get him fully ready for week 1.

We'll find out in a few weeks where the truth lies. I think us guessing at the recovery time when we have a very murky picture of what the injury actually is, is somewhat pointless.

But cool info regardless.

Disagree...we have no idea the severity of the sprain only the there was tendon involvement. Mine was borderline needing surgery, and other than some stiffness getting out of bed in the morning it was 100% full go at six weeks. I catch D1 softball and doctors cleared me for that and I had no issue popping up to catch and throw.

He very well may be cleared to play. He may play and be productive. But, as you noted, the human body...even elite athletes...can't be at 100% in 4 weeks from anything resembling a high ankle sprain. KNBR had a doctor on yesterday acknowledging that as well (as well as with Trent Taylor).

Not sure how you got that from what I said, but you clearly want to believe what you want to believe. That's fine...like I said we have no idea of the severity of any of this.

great info ... the fact that the injury was reported as minor by Ian Rappaport and Saleh originally said minor causes me to think that shanalynch may be being overly cautious with Bosa. At any rate , if we can get him back healthy early in the season, I 'll be fine with that as long as he's completely healthy.

Saleh jumped the gun. He shouldn't have said anything until after the MRI results.

I will say this...a bad high ankle? You ain't walking on it. There was no way I could put weight on that thing for about a week even with a boot and he walked off. Even after the doctor had me sleeping in the thing to make sure the tendons stayed in that exact position. If we see any picks of him with no boot? It's not bad.

Here you are saying "Stick to things that are quantifiable and not open to debate." and then you're proclaiming there's a 0% chance his 100% week 1

Didn't know you saw his MRI and know exactly how he heals...Garrett had a high ankle sprain and missed a month (had two sacks his 1st game back).

You could say there's a likelihood he's not 100% come 9/8 but 0%? Seems a bit hypocritical to say such a thing.

He won't be 100%. He may play. He may even play well. But a high ankle won't be 100% healed in that timeframe. I said "quantifiable" in regard to designating him "injury prone" or not.

Yeah I haven't seen any pics of him in a boot, like you said didn't need a cart and walked off on his own power.

You damn well know Cohn would be creeping around looking for a pic of Bosa in a boot lol

If he didn't need surgery, he just needs to keep weight off of it and do his PT.
Its obvious that it doesn't matter how severe Bosa's injury is. They already know what they have in him. Shanny just had a major scare and took his ball and went home. I don't blame him after losing both his RB and QB last year.
