What are the cap savings/hit if we cut him next year. Personally I am tired of the Every year Bosa saga and lack of production vs salary.
What every year saga? Remove the ACL injury seasons (two) and how many games has he actually missed?
I think that since the team is 6-0, the O - line is better than expected, the secondary is better than expected, and the draft is looking great, people are SEARCHING for something to be mad about.
The real issue isn't how many games he's missed. That's just part of the problem. I'm more concerned about the number of serious injuries he's had going all the way back to high school. Eventually all those things catch up to you and you performance starts to drop. He hasn't had a highly productive year since 2023. He's missed a lot of games (22) in the last 3 seasons. He may be fine when he comes back but given his history I wouldn't invest much in a new contract. They can't afford to pay him $30 million+ with that history.
Now this is fair. It'll be interesting to see what the negotiations are like this time around. The 49ers have much more leverage now. He isn't DPOY and hasn't had an elite year since 2022. And we have the emergence of guys like White, Halton, Williams, etc so we aren't desperate. Bosa or no Bosa long-term, I think they should draft a DE somewhere between the 2nd -4th round. We need a true three down guy due to Bosa's history.
Hoping this doesn't get messy but if it does, the 49ers should stand firm. I think he'll be a 10 sack minimum guy in any healthy season, but that's just it- being healthy.
I do wonder what a fair number looks like. Considering top end guys are getting deals in the 40s now, is the number 25 - 35 million APY now with some protection against injury/games missed?
