I'd say consistent pressure is more important than inconsistent pressure with the occasional sack. If the coverage can hold up for another tick, sacks will start coming.

Would you rather have a player get a guaranteed sack once a game but doesn't add much pressure or a player that rarely gets there but has consistent pressure? e.g Manny Lawson the forgotten goat
I'm just hoping he stays healthy. I know that seems like a low bar but I'm really not worried by the lack of sacks in September. What we need him for is when it's 3rd and 5 in a one-possession game in the playoffs.

Losing him in week 3 last season killed us. It really ruined the buzz of the 3-0 start for me because I knew this team wasn't going on a playoff run without him, barring a Trey Hendrickson trade or something like that.

49ers have the best D in the NFL after 2 weeks and people here are complaining about Bosa. I hate some of our fans more than I hate fans of the Seahawks, Rams or Eagles.

we all know why ppl find reasons to complain about nick
i have found on the WZ if you just run in the opposite direction of the general consensus on here you will effectively be a crystal ball

The best part about Bosa - or any M*G* athlete - is that he has been the consummate teammate, never gotten into any trouble, never been any less than humble, respectful or a good a person.

Never met anyone whose actually played football who is this critical of Nick Bosa. It's not always about sacks when QB's are getting rid of the ball waaaaaay prematurely or bailing out of the pocket long before the play has had a chance to develop

I don't think Manny Lawson is the best example of this, heck of a player against the run but the 49ers' pass rush wasn't worth a good God damn until he was replaced/upgraded.

Justin Smith I think is the better example- I can't even remember him getting double digit sacks, but he obliterated OL's whether he got there or not and had QB's running scared.
I told my son when watching the game that Bosa would have have a couple sacks had Willis been Stafford. I am sure Bosa prefers to face statues than he does the mobile QB. On the other hand I am sure our DBs prefer the mobile QB because they know that 45 passes won't be coming their way either. If you want to judge Bosa I would say turn on the tape as opposed to the stat sheet. He was as disruptive as you would want him to be especially coming off the injury he had last year. He is still playing like a top tier pass rusher and edge setter. I am happy with how both Bosa and Fred Warner have looked thus far

Matt Stafford I think threw for only like 165 yds and I'm not sure what Willis' stats were, but the Dolphins passing game didn't do s**t, especially before garbage time. If the D is keeping QB's to these totals consistently all year and making them that uncomfortable, it's irrelevent how many sacks Bosa is or isn't getting if the pressures he's generating are making QB's s**t their pants.

Joking aside, that's a good example Justin vs. Micah

Bosa playing like this is even better than Myles Garrett. He is already charting a course on DPOY this year

Myles Garrett gets all the hype and better stats, but he is only marginally, if that much, "better" than Bosa.

When Bosa is healthy, he is constantly double teamed, held, and something that doesn't show up on the stat sheet is how much QB's rushed to get rid of the ball before Bosa could get there. Those plays don't show up as "pressures", but there was a few throws vs the Rams where Stafford got rid of the ball way prematurely in anticipation of Bosa winning.

Hippy Lettuce???

This is one heck of a statement. MG is the best at his position and it isn't even close.

He was the best LAST year. This year… He can't stay on the field.

Bosa has missed 32 games in his 8 year career. Until this year Garrett has played nearly every game. His surgery is expected to only keep him out for 6 weeks.

Yaup. Like I said. "Best last year"

MG been the best for the past 8 years?

I get what you're saying. MG has been DPOY twice. Bosa once. That said, I don't trust a guy that signs a big contract while nursing an injury on the down low. (Which is what it looks like MG did)

I will not be surprised one bit if he misses 8 games and is only 80% of himself when he does get on the field.

Have you seen how many games Bosa has missed?

Of course. That's a large part of what makes me think that MG is NOT to be counted on for a 100% return to form. I've watched our own DPOY/DROY miss enough games and play hurt enough to know that a timely, 100% return to form for MG is highly unlikely. Not ripping him…just don't trust guys who hide injuries while getting a monster contract.

Depends what you meant by "doesn't add much pressure". But to answer your question, give me the DE that gets consistent pressure. Evaluating a good pass rusher goes even deeper than looking at the pass rush productivity stat - that's the stat that shows on what percentage of snaps does the player get pressure. There are stunts/games that scheme a DLman to get favorable matchups, or come in unblocked. To me, that should not be viewed as favorable as when a DL goes 1on1 versus an OL and whoops the OLman with a move/countermove. That's when you see the true skill of an elite pass rusher.

Tendonitis flaring back up?
What's his contract status next year? Can we just cut bait without dead money hit?

Damaged goods no. Bosa has played very well the first two weeks. He's coming back from a devastating injury earlier than a lot of athletes would be able to without a training camp / preseason. Of course the injury is scary & we need 97 to stay healthy. But expecting that he would not have any type of flare ups after an ACL is unrealistic.
