Morris is better than a stop-gap, he will produce big time.

I like him in Shanny's offense better than McKinnon

He can't catch though. His best year catching he had 17 receptions in 16 games and his 2nd best year he had 11 receptions in 16 games.

How many targets did he get though?

If he didn't get targets when Shanahan was his OC, then how is he isn't a better fit for Shanahan's offense then McKinnon was. That's all I am saying.

The issue isn't his catching ability, it's that he can't run away from LB's in the passing game. It's the reason Hyde was let go.

I'm happy with him running the football, but we'll need Brieda to step up in a big way in order to see the full potential of Kyle's offense.

Carlos Hyde had more receptions last season than Morris has had in his entire 6 year career.

didn't mean he was good at it. it was just a part of KS's offense. he didn't have a choice but to use Hyde at times in the passing game.

It should be noted elder Shanny was the hc in Wsh. He's going to have influence on Kyle. Wsh is really the only time Shanny got little receiving production out of his backs. I think Morris will have to step up a bit in the passing game.

He is average for a RB which makes him subpar as a replacement for McKinnon who is a RB/WR for all intents and purposes. Morris is much more one dimensional and thus less of a matchup problem.

Yep. And he wasn't a natural receiver. Defenses weren't scared of him beating them 30 yards down the field. That is what the 49ers lose with McKinnon going down.

Expect Shanahan to scheme with a WR in the backfield or using Breida, or another RB, to offset loss of McKinnon.

I think that outside of Breida, you tip your hand with pretty much anyone else. The threat of having a fast RB that can run with it, block or take off and fly downfield, running routes like a WR is immense.
This was still an impact signing especially in hindsite. Kyle will 'invent'something else. Morris is reliable and smart with vet vision and patience. A very valuable signing.

Having someone quick enough to get outside, like a WR, would keep the front seven honest, and I really expect Shanahan to pick up or bring back a RB who can spell Breida and Mostert as Morris' get a rest. We could bring back Williams for another chance.

But I'm less worried than many. Just seems like you can plug and play a RB easier than other positions.

Edit: and many are underestimating Morris' ability to use patience along the line and pick his spot. Really impressive.

Last season I was waiting to see Breida run some routes. There were a number of runs where he was one step from taking it to the house. He looked like a mismatch for most LBs. I can easily see Kyle working him into some pass routes. Kyle likely already had him in the plans going forward. Smart OCs don't build their entire offense around just one guy without a backup.
