You seriously think line backer is more a need than DE?? Or CB is more a pressing need than DE?
at least we have malcolm smith/ warner and possibly foster at LB and witherspoon/ ward/ williams at CB
we have no one again NO ONE at DE.. we have no one that has potential to kick out to DE, put spin move or rush passer and hit them in mouth <2sec ala most speed rushers in the league... we have Attoachu, Marsh, Taumoepenu and Harold... i humbly dont think they will make it past final cuts on other NFL teams.

This was like an even worse version of a Baalke draft. We should've addressed the prominent lack of an edge rusher on this team instead we got a bunch of reaching picks. Hopefully it won't matter because the rest of the team grows enough to get us into a wild card spot with Jimmy G leading the way.

IMO the edge draft class was weak. Good athleticism and effort, but not a lot of violent hands guys. They may have figured that Attaochu was a better option. (IMO Attaochu's college tape flashed more speed to power than most of the 2018 guys.)

Obviously they were not impressed with much out there in this draft. Weird strategy

THS... not to worried. They haven't did anything to prove us wrong yet. Colbert was a what..... A 7th round pick. I trust their guys.Originally posted by zonkers:IMO the edge draft class was weak. our biggest need after a franchise qb is 1A. Pass rusher 1B. O-line to protect franchise qb..
We've been missing it for years, year they didn't even try to address it.
Major disappointment.
Actually should be zero excuse from them.
Hell, even lynch said it during interviews.. keep Jimmy up and knock opposing qb down is the two most important aspects.. yet, he doesn't follow thru?
How can anyone justify not having a pass rush for years, and lynch/KYLE not addressing it again this year?

maybe ... but just because the class is weak on DEs doesn't mean we should completely abandon the position. Attoachu had only 2 sacks past 2 years!! and he lost his backup job to an undrafted rookie Chris mccains! SD moved on from him because he could never remain durable for a full season.. am i to assume he will all of a sudden drink from the fountain of youth and stay healthy all season for first time in his career?

Coverage sacks work too.
If you can't get the edge guy you want, smother the receivers and all of a sudden your current guys look a lot better.

You dont draft a garbage ER for the sake of drafting one and making fans happy.
A one down defensive player who might get 4 sacks. Yeah I saw lots of those falling into day 3. Lynch wasn't the only GM taking a pass.

so lets see... 4th quarter, 2 minute drive... we are up by 5 pts.. 3rd and 10... lets see if you prefer that coverage sack or wish to have that speed rusher than can pin his ears, attack the QB and put fear on the other QB and rattle their offensive tackle
i personally prefer the second option!

Lynch is jealous of Baalke and wanted to prove that he can beat him at his own game (drafting injury prone / injured players)

So, the narrative is that ALL of the pass rushers (esp. those that fit the Elephant position) are suddenly garbage and not worth it? Including all the ones we met with?
Bradley Chubb, NC State (COM)
Harold Landry, Boston College (COM)
Marcus Davenport, UTSA (COM)
Josh Sweat, FSU (COM/Workout)
Arden Key, LSU (COM)
Lorenzo Carter (NFL Network)
Uchenna Nwosu, USC (PRO)
Kemoko Turay, Rutgers
Chad Thomas, Miami (EW)
Dorance Armstrong, Kansas
None of these guys could even remotely have a chance to upgrade over Marsh or Attaochu? That a guy like Ogbonnia Okoronkwo could never upgrade over Eli Harold at SAM/ER (3-down player)?

The ones that are bolded, they probably liked. But they weren't in range, I GUESS. Davenport, they probably didn't value him higher than McGlinchey. And It's obvious that Shanahan wanted to use the first two picks on his guys for offense.
Everyone else, supposedly they thought were garbage and couldn't beat out Cassius Marsh and Eli harold on the roster.
I guess we will see.......
