Not proven true yet.
but it has happened. There's no immunity even with past flus.

There have been a couple of verified cases. One was in the US the other in Asia. It's still extremely unlikely but at this point we don't know how long immunity lasts. Keep in mind it's only been around since January and only in large numbers since April. We don't keep our immunity to some cold viruses which are also coronaviruses and flu strains change every year.
If he did have it, is anyone concerned that it may affect his level of play for the season? I've heard some basketball players that caught it haven't been the same since they came back

That would be a concern if he actually had it. I doubt that he had any symptoms because he likely wouldn't be back already if he did.

Current hypothesis is that recovered people have T-cell immunity that can prevent symptomatic infection, but they could still be asymptomatic spreaders for a certain amount of time.

I believe in each case this has happened it was shown to be different strains of Covid. That's not really any different than other flu and flu-like viruses - you can have immunity to one strain and get sick with another. Happens to everyone.

Well here's hoping that he plays like an All-Pro this season and if for some reason he's looking like s**t I guess we know why

Yep, once your immunity has a blueprint on how to attack the virus, the same strain can be easily fought against. But what happens is the Virus, being a living organism itself, attempts to mutate to attack against this immunity. Your body is however more able to combat the next strain if it is closely related to the previous one. Unless your immune system goes on the fritz, then you better find a good bubble.

The COVID virus hasn't really muted much. The different strains are very similar and could provide a fair amount of immunity to each other. That's one of the only good things about COVID. Coronaviruses as a group tend not to mutate as much as flu viruses. Because of that , there is hope that a vaccine will provide at least some protection against getting it again even if it does change slightly. We'll have to wait and see.

No I'm not concerned, unless he has some underlying condition that was never revealed due to privacy rights (like asthma). He's an elite athlete in his early 20s. His VO2max is off the chart for his position, so I think he will be fine. He probably will need to get his game legs due to inactivity, but I'm thinking his cardio is fine.

Friendly reminder that we have a thread dedicated to discussing the virus in the Parking Lot subforum. Let's keep this one about Fred.

That's why some people are concerned. If he actually had the virus it can have an effect on the heart. Many people have that issue after getting COVID. People need to stop thinking that athletes with no underlying conditions are safe. A freshman lineman at Indiana University came down with a severe case. No underlying conditions. A distance runner up here in Oregon who was only 22 or 23 is currently hospitalized and having lot's of symptoms. She was in perfect health. Elite, healthy athletes can and do get serious cases.
So yes the chances are good that if you are young and healthy that you won't get a severe case but that doesn't mean you'll be fine. Even mild cases have come back on several people with much worse symptoms. Anyone at any age can get this and be over it in a week or two or end up in the hospital. It depends on how much of the virus you contract and very likely some hereditary things that come into play. Just like some people can smoke 2 packs a day their entire life and not get cancer hile another healthy person that never smokes gets it and dies.
👍
My dude Fred going to WRECK s**t on Sunday, can't wait!!!!
