5 years @$28,000,000 = $140,000,000. $70,000,000 guaranteed.
That's bit more than Stafford but by 2020 that will look like a bargain for a FQB.

Sure I want him locked up, but there is no way he's getting 25+ million a year this off season on a long term deal, unless it's something like a 7 year deal, and the money starts out small and is extremely back loaded, so if he isn't what he think or hope he is, then we can get out of it cheaply.
I stand by by 5 years at 110 million total, with about 40-50 guaranteed. We could just franchise him this year for like 23 million, and if he struggles or gets hur, then all he would be doing is costing himself money.
Why would he settle for $40 or $50 million guaranteed if he can get that in 2 seasons under the franchise tag? Would you do that if you were him?
He wont. Bob will be disappointed. It will be more money that he thinks and will be front loaded

Hmm... so it was Jimmy who ran headfirst right into Goodwin?
Qb can protect his receivers by throwing the ball low or away from a huge hit. It's science.
If the defender doesn't commit a boneheaded, unnecessary penalty then it's a good play...
There's a couple plays you can rip Jimmy on if you really want to but that wasn't one of them.

If Jimmy won't sign for a good price, then lets just tag him and move on.
Then what? Let him play under the tag and go through the song and dance all over again? What happens if he balls out? Your gonna have to pay him even more. What happens if he hates the idea of getting tagged and it goes Kirk cousins up in here?
Just pay him and move on....SF had like $120 million in cap space, spend it on the most important position on sports. SF has been waiting for like 15 yrs for a qb

Also vs mostly back up players.

I can't believe how many of us complained for years about not having a true qb that can throw the damn ball. Now that we have a qb that can and has thrown the damn ball better than anyone else that we have had in years people don't want to pay him ? What other QBs are going to be making lol it doesn't make sense man. This is the NFL man nothing is guaranteed, besides the $$$. Risk is everywhere from busts to injuries , can't avoid risk in the NFL so might as well take one when the signs are more positive than negative

Ahh there you guys are! Only took 24 hours. Was getting worried!

Can't wait until he has that one inevitable 3-interception game next season against the Vikings. The amount of WZers demanding he needs to be cut will be hilarious lol

Exactly this.
What's the alternative?
He's clearly has elite QB traits. Sweet - lets lock it down then keep this thing rolling.

I agree. I think it will be the most guaranteed money ever for a QB. He'll be the highest paid player for a season. 2-3 years from now it will be a value, that's how these contracts work. Something very close to Stafford's deal.

21.5 million a year on 5 years. 110 million with 45-50 guaranteed.

What does the franchise tag guarantee? I think that's the floor for yearly salary. I don't know if 21.5 would get it done. I think it's gonna be more along the lines of 25 mil a year.
