I agree, outside of Trent being our GM and trading Staley.

Salary cap is not an issue for us in the near future. Staley had a rough game Sunday but overall he's been one of the bright spots on this team. We should certainly look to get a guy who can replace him or Trent Brown(if the plan is to move him to LT) but getting rid of him now isn't wise. You want some veteran presence on such a young team. If we trade Bowman(hurts to see him like this).

But I said going into this season I wanted us to lose for a better draft pick because I knew we had no chance for the playoffs. But I wanted us to lose in close games where maybe you could blame the refs and say "we would've won too if not for those pesky refs" and I wanted to see our young players grow in every game and show a clear set of players to build around. Well mission pretty much accomplished. Sucks not having Foster out there after he looked so good early on and I'd like to see more from Solomon but I think both players will be cornerstone pieces for us along with Buckner on the D.

On offense I'm loving what I'm seeing with the talent we have. The missed throws and drops go away with better talent. And with those going away this offense is legit.

I think we're in a pretty good position to compete for playoffs again soon especially if the plan is to sign Cousins in the offseason. We have the room and we know he can play at this level. Use the high draft pick to potentially trade down for a ton of picks and use those to build up the offense and our corners and pass rush on D. Use free agency and later rounds in the draft for interior OL and other needs depending on who actually hits the open market.

Taylor, kittle, foster, thomas, and ward are core prices. They are gonna be here for awhile. I think ward gets extended next year if he stays healthy and the rest are rooks and are gonna be here 4-5 years at the minimum all as starters.

Agreed. If we sign Cousins I would think 8-8 is the bar for next year. I saw some play of him this year. He is solid, but i wonder if hes worth the massive $ at this point.If Lets be real - we will be talking qb again in 4-6 years if we go this route.

If we go rookie its a 2-3 year deal for him to grow (or not!). I'm fine with either and prefer a rookie if they think he can be a 13+ year starter in this league.

This year is frustrating as hell, but I never expected to win it all so I begrudgingly agree about getting the high pick. It will give the front office many scenarios in which to build.

I agree - I just wish the offense was more consistent. They kill themselves and look inept with the penalties and missed opportunities. I honestly think Hoyer is still learning the offense and the players around him - and the other players still learning the offense.

I don't think there is any reason to trade Staley with the cap room - and don't think we would get much value from a trade since another team would likely view him as a 1-2 year solution at best. It more likely we trade one of the DL that don't fit perfectly - probably Armstead.

In hindsight, I think this management team did an AMAZING job drafting for value and not reaching. As badly as we needed it, they didn't see 1st round talent in the QB or WR class and stuck to not reaching. The only bust I expect out of the class I see is CB Witherspoon - just don't see him rising to NFL talent.

Next year priorities:
QB - It wouldn't surprise me to see Hoyer start to put it together as the year progresses and stick around for veteran talent next year. Draft a QB in round 1-2. Continue to groom Bethard. The thing I like about Shanny, he will play the best QB regardless of draft position. Personally, I am not sold on Cousins for high dollars - I don't think he can take you to a superbowl, so why spend the money. Ironically, if Alex Smith keeps playing like he does now, I'd rather bring him back than Cousins (let the howling begin, lol).

CB - I liked Donte Johnson, but man he can't cover enough to deter QB throws - he is around the ball, but not a deterrent. CB has to be a round 1-2 pick -- and probably round 4-7 for depth. I think the front 7 gets just enough pressure that better coverage would greatly improve the D and result in more sacks.

WR - If the talent is there, desperate need for a #1 WR to make the offense work. That way Garcon can be a solid #2 possession guy at this stage of his career. Taylor in the slot. The other receivers are way too inconsistent.

DE - I don't think the pass rush is as bad as it looks, so I put the priority on the above before DE. The problem is that after round 1, it is nearly impossible to find pass rushing talent. So unless the scouts think they have a CB or WR answer that is gonna be there in round 3-4, I don't see a dominant DE coming to 9ers in year 2 (unless of course they pull off some trade to get two 1st round picks).

Although a good sign they we have been competitive in every game, unlike last year.
