Sucks that Bolden can't be #6. Never understood why players can't be any number they want. Typical NFL rule

I guess we can look at it with ass-backwards math?
6 = 1-7

Jeff Fuller.
Earl Cooper.
I meant in the last 30+ years.
Since Fuller wore it in 1984, only Bruce Miller has worn it longer than 1-2 years.

I'm glad Witherspoon isn't 41. 41 is a bad cb number.

I don't have a complete list of every player on the team who has worn #49, but it's never been associated with a great player (Jeff Fuller approached greatness, but...), and has often been worn by snakebit players (the drunken assault-and-battery specialist par excellence Bruce Miller as the latest during the regular season). Kind of like #7 is a terrible number to have as a Niners QB. Wear it at your own risk.

Really like the new numbers. Thought Bolden would stay with 83. Like Witherspoon with 23

lol this is your explaination?
The only thing I can think of is the players think its corny to wear 49. Personally, id want to wear it, especially if I were a young player. Inevitably youd at least get someone to buy your jersey for the number.
At least we dont retire it "for the fans" like Seattle did with 12. So pathetic.

BTW, after the 53 man roster, and with a 9 man PS and a 13 man IR, we still have 13 un-used, un-retired numbers.
So for everyone who is always wringing their hands over the whole "We cant retire 52 and 21!! Theres no numbers left!!", calm down. We have plenty of space.
Available for QB/P/K: 1, 6, 7
Available for WR: 13, 84, 89
Available for RB/FB/CB/S: 40, 45, 46, 49
Available for OL/DL: 61, 64, 69, 92
Available for LB: 92

Mike Davis. Carlos Rogers was a pretty good #22 after Clements. Davis ruined it.
