Let me just start by saying that the vast majority of years since Steve Young took that hit from Aneas Williams, realistic people belonged here, not the silver-lining thread. This is the Yin (darker side) to the Silver-lining thread's Yang. In my opinion, the 49ers are currently an amateur organization. They hired a choke-artist head coach and a guy who's never even been a scout as the GM. In my opinion, they have no plan. I think they f***ed up royally by passing on Trubisky, but I don't want to turn this into a Trubisky thread. Suffice it to say at least the Bears and probably at least one other team thought he was a franchise QB (the other team(s) who were potential trade partners). At least they have a plan. The 49ers have no plan. Unless, that is, they're putting all their eggs in the You-Like-That basket. In which case, let me just let out a resounding "meh." If your plan is to hope the Redskins don't re-sign him and then pay out the a** for a guy who's one of the least-exciting, decent QBs in the NFL... he's not exactly Roethlisberger... then that's like holding out and not dating for a year in the off chance this chick might give you a chance some day: Ok, so I used a painting because I don't like talking s**t about real women's appearances for no good reason. But you get the point. Even if the Niners get him, they're gonna pay enough money to fund a small country, and he's so not exciting it's nauseating. Yes, the team has some amazing talent on the DL, now. That's great. So did the Jaguars when they had John Henderson & Marcus Stroud. If you don't have a QB, you don't have s**t. The exception is if your defense is so insanely good that any QB can win. and that is not the 49ers. They're not the 2000 Ravens or the 2002 Buccs. Maybe if they drafted Myles Garrett they could've been, but they didn't. So yet again, I'm resigned to rooting for a f***ing draft pick. I've been rooting for good draft picks like 16 out of the last 20 years. I've been rooting for the Niners' QBs to get kidnapped by aliens since Steve Young. And the only hope I see is in the draft right now, not Kirk Cousins. If the team gets Josh Rosen, I'd be excited. MAYBE Josh Allen too, but he's got a long, LOOOOOOONG way to go. And I'm unconvinced about Sam Darnold, but this isn't a draft thread. But the Niners are gonna have to suck pretty badly to get one of those guys, and they have to much talent on the defensive side to suck that badly (anything can happen, though; Brian Hoyer might get hurt; you never know). In short, I think the Niners are an amateur organization with no real leadership, no plan and no brains running blindly into the season with their fingers crossed, hoping good things happen. Nobody has faith in rookie quarterbacks taken in the third round. But that is one round higher than Cousins. No rookie we draft, no matter how high, will be in better shape to back up Cousins than Hoyer next year imo.

My only caution is to avoid getting too excited on a "strong quarterback class", when Kyle may or may not see it that way at all, or may see the strength well down other people's board, like he did with Cousins and Carr.

My response was to the idea that we don't draft a QB under any circumstances, that Cousins is a lock, we don't have to worry about Hoyer in any way and that hey! We already have Beathard.

Got it. I'm just saying imo the most likely thing is we get Cousins, the most likely thing is we keep Hoyer at least one more year as he'll still be under contract and just coming off a whole season starting for Kyle, and the most likely thing is Beathard will get more than a single year to prove himself, and the most likely thing is we won't keep more than three quarterbacks. Anything can happen.

I thought for sure Pats were full of chit about keeping Jimmy and would move him during the draft. Seeing that they kept him I see no way they just let him walk for nothing next offseason.

He's going to get franchised then traded.

I mean I'm cool with that route as well...another option is front load the snot out of kirk's deal AND draft a QB to groom. We become a possible playoff caliber team with Kirk and have a future guy waiting in the wings to learn the offense like jimmy G is doing.

He's not gonna touch FA and you know it...if they weren't gonna trade him while he's was at his peak value then he's not going anywhere imo. IF he somehow makes it to FA (which won't happen) then sure take a crack at it, you're gonna have a f**k ton of teams going after him though, which will drive the price wayyyyy up...Kirk actually wants to play here which makes getting him much more plausible.

If they were going to trade him, they'd have done it this year when he was under contract. Seems they've made the decision either his value as a backup this year is worth more than they could get (Brady is old), or he is the heir apparent and they'll just try to find a way to keep him. Remember Walsh used to say the biggest problem with old players is that they were unreliable because they get injured more often.

Uuugg. What about the .45 to Kirk's head to get him to sign, and that gets you prison time.

No trade happens for the one year franchise tag, and why does Kirk want to help the team that disrespected him, and, oh yeah, he's already decided he wants to play the prime of his career with Kyle.

If they make the trade, they'll have a long-term deal in place for Kirk before it's finalized.

Potential for Kirk to be off the table & Goff out of the NFC West!

It's a joke of an article with zero substance behind it to becoming remotely plausible...it's a trade scenario solely based off her imagination (and the fact she's a Washington writer that clearly values one side of this trade).
