Hikutini comes in behind McDonald, Celek, Paulson, Bell, and Kittle. Not to say its impossible but that could be tough. Jerome is small, not fast, and played at St Francis. I am rooting for the kid but guys his size and speed dont often make it in the secondary. Breida also faces some big odds given the # of RBS the Niners have now after adding Williams and Bibbs.

I do think our practice squad will be made up of several of these guys so they are still very important.

Then there's a guy like Juice who is a bit of a hybrid FB/TE just to complicate things.

For me Hikutini is a PS guy for sure. McDonald/Celek are "waiting out there contract if not cut or traded" kind of guys at this point so he's got time on his side.

Paulson is the perfect sort of guy to mentor a guy like Hikutini because he's a great blocker and plays tough. That's what Hikutini needs to figure out because he has a lot going for him as a dynamic pass catching TE.

List says who some of the tryouts are now. All I could find

So easy as fans to sit back and call this guy or that guy a scrub/bum etc but just to get an opportunity without a guarantee means so much to these guys who aren't the out and out stars.

Tough business, congrats to the young guy.

I'll be rooting for that kid

Me too. If he pans out, he can go Jihaad on our rivals DBs, especially LOB

According to sbnation we have 8 signings. Don't know if they're confirmed or how recent their list is but the names are...

Cannon
Jerome
Gilbert
Mullens
Magnuson
Flynn
Williams
Hikutini

Same here, good to see the hard work pay off for the kid. Why I can't watch Hard Knocks. Kills me to see kids lose their dreams when they get cut.

What steal to get Cannon as an udfa

For sure!

Thought KD should have stayed one more year at Baylor. He's a good kid and athlete but needs time to learn the route tree. Glad we got him.
I highly doubt we just straight up cut McDonald. New contract or not, he's better than Celek, Bell, and Paulsen. Kittles should make the team, but I see Bell as the 1st to go, followed by Celek, way before McDonald is thought about. I realize we've tried to trade McDonald, and I'm sure if we want him gone, our price will go down first before cutting him for nothing, especially while taking a big cap hit.

IMO, Jerome is the 5th best S on the team behind Ward, Reid, Tartt and Jones.

TE wise, Vance is being shopped, he probably gets cut, Celek is the 3rd or 4th TE, he could also be cut. Paulsen makes it, Kittle as well, I can see Hikutini making it easily.

Breida I agree, but no way they sign him, and also have Davis and Mostert in camp.

Cannon can make it easily as well, I have zero faith in any of the WRs Baalke drafted or signed as UDFAs. He sucked when evaluating WRs

What type of cap hit if Vance gets cut? We just extended that guy. I feel like a guy with his athletic ability should get a shot with a new OC. He was pretty decent in the red zone even with the Real American passing him the ball.
This kid DE Noble Nwachuckwu could surprise some. Probably a PSquader this year.

We'd actually lose a little over $1.4M in cap room if they trade him, more if they cut him straight up, they likely don't cut him, they will trade him if they can, they'd have to give up a pick just to get another pick for him.

Baalke screwed us when he did this contract, he gave too much gtd money to McDonald.
*Some of the players invited for tryouts might end up trying for other teams instead. Just a fyi.

"Former Michigan OL Erik Magnuson sells intelligence, toughness to NFL teams"

http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2017/04/former_michigan_ol_erik_magnus.html

"Magnuson, a former four-star recruit from California, redshirted as a true freshman in 2012 and then started seven games at guard the following year. He eventually moved to right tackle and was the Wolverines' starter at that spot the last two seasons. Magnuson said versatility is a strength and that's reinforced by feedback from NFL teams.

CBS Sports ranks Magnuson as the No. 12 offensive tackle and No. 137 prospect overall in the draft and projects him as a fourth-round selection. Although his pro day numbers weren't at an elite level, Magnuson said there's more to his game than those results indicate.

"Football awareness," he said. "I think my ability to play consistent from snap one to the very end is something that stands out and a lot of scouts say that about being consistent from game to game.

"Being an offensive lineman, you want to be physical, you want to be tough and you want to be smart. So, I think I hold all those qualities."

I like Magnuson a lot. I had him going to us in a mock, but in the 4th round. Stoked to get him as a UDFA
