unlimited cap room for the Chiefs. They keep on cheating like they are the NE Patriots. SMH.

Not cheating. Just sacrificing the future. this team is going to be in cap hell in 4 years. There is a good chance Kelce doesn't last this entire contract. If he declines(he will be a month shy of 33 when this contract kicks off) the chiefs may cut him after 2 years into it if they need cap space. Tyreek Hill might get close to $30 Million per year on his next contract. Chiefs fans think he is a top 3 WR in the game, so they better be prepared for him to be paid like one.

As long as they have Mahomes they'll be contenders if not the favorites.

I remember people saying that about Aaron Rodgers

And GB has been to the playoffs almost every season that he's been healthy.

Mahomes is already 10x the QB Rodgers ever was and is only going to get better. It's hard to see the Chiefs not being a top 5 team his entire career as long as he stays healthy.
lol funny post, post is funny

JimmyWhy spelled backwards is "undercover bandwagon chiefs fan"

s**t, I wish I was sometimes. People keep saying that they're leveraging their future to resign all these stars, but I look at our cap future and it's apparent that we need to either win it all this season or we're probably not going to anytime soon unless we're able to draft really well in the next few years.
we have been drafting great starters and good depth for the most part. sprinkle in some plug n play FAs and we are good.

Chiefs will fall like all other teams do when they start creating unrealistic contracts.

You're just coming to the realization that that's what all successful NFL teams eventually have to deal with? LOL. Moreover, do you think we're the only team dealing with it? Why do you think there's so much parity in the NFL? Welcome to the world of complex thought.

No, but some teams are better prepared for it than others. I would have liked for us to be in the mix for more than a total of 2 seasons, but the reality is that if you don't have a top 5 QB it's nearly impossible to remain competitive in this league for an extended period of time.
Hell f**king Yeah, glad to see the Kittle extension get done, I said between $16M-$17M a yr, so I was a mill or 2 off, glad it's done though, signed for 6 years, through 2025.

Was Joe Flacco a top 5 QB? Eli Manning? It's very possible to be a competitive team every year if you have an elite defense. Just teams give into QBs wanting to get payed and have to lose the entire team to do so. I'd love for a team to let a QB walk so they can keep the team together but it will never happen.

These guys are the best of the best, they want to win...if it was just about money he would have gotten traded to Minn who already had a extension laid out for him.

And in no way is something like 3yrs $45M taking a discount...we gotta go down this road again lol.

Name a player that was 33 that reset the market at his position (outside of QB)?

So if say the Jags give him 3 yrs $51M and SF gives him 3 yrs $45M he's gonna play for the Jags? I don't believe that for a sec....also before you assume Kittle's APY is just gonna be $15M per, let's just wait a min on that I doubt his cap hit is gonna be some monster hit yr 1 into his deal...it would be the same for Trent in 2021 as well.

Its all going to depend on the 18m signing bonus and the 30m guaranteed payment structure. Backloaded? Frontoaded? Or evenly spread out? I think its Backloaded. According to AB, to free up cap space to sign Trent, at minimum two players have to restructure- Jimmy and DeeFord. So those are going to be tricky, if not difficult to do, depending on next years projected revenue numbers and the ongoing Virus issues.

As for Trent and where he will sign. Again, if he's gotten his Lombardi ring, he has much more leeway in his choices vs not having the ring and still wanting a championship. I think Tent signed with Kyle this year because of a potential super bowl appearance- thats why I think he didn't sign for more with Minnesota.

Money is money, and I'm guessing money to Trent is going to matter more than another super bowl ring if he already has one. As for his past earnings, that really doesn't matter, its the time period that he as left to earn money. As an NFL player he will want to maximize his earnings. I have a feeling Trent is going to lean the way Emanual Sanders, Trent Brown and Nate Solder did and go for the money vs stay with the 49ers. Keep in mind 49ers can't F-Tag him next year. I wonder why he wanted that condition in signing with Kyle?

Don't get me wrong, Rodgers was arguably the most talented QB of all time before Mahomes showed up, but Mahomes is on an entirely different level. It's hard to see the Chiefs not being a top 5 team his entire career as long as he stays healthy.

That's the problem. It is the single most important position in all sports...and it gets paid.

Here's rub: Jimmy is the 12th highest paid QB in the league, only $2M ahead of five other guys. Below those guys, there isn't a starter in the league I would take over Jimmy. (Watson and Jackson are paid a lot less but on rookie deals)

So, just keeping JG at his current level in some fashion is a big deal. He isn't likely to take a big pay cut unless he falls completely apart this season. Don't hold your breath.

Agreed paying a QB midrange pay so you can keep a talented team around him is a really good way to stay competitive.

Crazy. Will be killer if salary cap goes down at all in next year or 2

You can't cheat the cap, you just manipulate it. The 49ers have done it, and so have the Chiefs. Plus Kelce was signed for 2 more years, so they could lower his base salary and use the difference as his bonus structure for 2019.

Just for fun, here is a list of "midrange," or less QBs that have won a SB:
Eli - twice (is he average? or slightly better?)
Jim Plunkett - twice
Bob Griese - two very forgettable SB performances but wins
Nick Foles -
Jim McMahon - tied with Trent Dilfer for worst ever to win a SB
Mark Rypien -
Phil Simms -
Joe Flacco -
Brad Johnson - OK, maybe tied with McM and TD
Jeff Hostettler -
Doug Williams -
Trent Dilfer -

That is 15 SB wins, over 25% of all SBs, won by guys that will win you money in a trivia contest.

Salary cap era only would jump that % higher I imagine
