Yes you can especially with an MRI. They can see the tissues and see if there are any tears. Even the slightest little one. In this case they would (I'm assuming) be checking on the recovery of it.
It's actually very common that athletes have microscopic procedures on their Achilles vs full surgeries (I've had it done)
It all comes down to the tear in the first place and how far he's come along. You get multiple MRI's done along the way.
Plus I can see him being a mentor to Foster in a way. Sherman is a clean cut guy off the field. Very intelligent too.
