49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

I'm a huge, huge Kyle defender and I do think it's dumb that we're STILL talking about this over two years later.

But it's pretty obvious what CharlieSheen's point is. If we had kicked off instead, it's very possible things go differently. We have no way of knowing for sure, of course, but he's right on this one. The Chiefs had a guaranteed 4 downs to work with. We didn't. And that fact showed in both of our drives.

Yes, it's very possible we kick off, the Chiefs score a TD in one play and then we immediately turn the ball over, game over. But that's not the point. The point is it easily could've gone differently and us receiving first played a factor in how both of our drives went. We were forced to make a tough decision to settle for a field goal. For the Chiefs, the decision to go for it on 4th and 1 on their side of the field was a slam dunk.

The only reasonable logic for kicking off is because our defense was tired (which in the end the rest just made our deaths slow and painful instead of a gunshot to the head) or if you're thinking you'll score 8 on your opening drive (which I don't think any coach today is currently implementing this strategy). If you score 7 on your opening drive it'll still come down to a 2-point play.

at the end of the day this is all in the past and nit picking. you ask any player on this team who they want a coach they all have coaches back, so does the entire nfl community. are we even in these super bowls without kyle? i myself did recaps of that game questioning the moves, you know after the game, not this far later, but it's in the past, i guess we have to move on and say we have an elite coach who has been close but no cigar yet, no shame in that, coach puts all he has into these teams

And that's a wonderful take if we ignore the actual game.

The decision was fine. The result wasn't.

Kyle explained his reasoning and it's very logical for anyone simply not looking to blame him for the loss.

Why live in fear of a TD by an offense who hasn't been able to get a single TD drive in 6 quarters? Chiefs could've said anything after winning but we have no idea what happens if the defense does their job and stop them within FG range and a 4th and long situation. They very well could've kicked a FG to tie it up again giving us the ability to win with the next score.

So what's happening instead of analyzing what actually happened Charlie and others are using hindsight to bash Kyle's decision and imagining scenarios which didn't actually play out. Personally I find that a silly way to make a point.

Kyle had his chances. I would have loved to see him call a play so good that Kittle could watch it on the scoreboard. Live up to his hype for once

Our best option is that we get the 1st possession and score a TD, then they go and score a TD, then we have a chance to win it after that with a FG or TD.

Hmmmm.....a Mahomes Reid offense. How many 4th comebacks do they have under their belt? In these kind of situations? Not sure i leave it up to a defense that was starting to show wear and a DC that would later be fired.

I still maintain Bosa s**t the bed on 4th and 4. I dont care what the call was or his assignment. The highest salary non QB player needs to make the call and the play. Game over.
