Whats your point. You need a QB to win. And Shanahan doesn't have one. He may have one in Lance, that remains to be seen. We know who Jimmy is. But ultimately, after 6 season, we're seeing poorer offense than we have since it was Mullens and Beathard. We're going backward.

Keep in mind Jimmy had no training camp and was not game-ready when he came in. I thought Wilson was more of a third-down back not starter quality. Drafting a QB and expending so much capital was questionable. So it falls on Coach Shanahan. Can the Organization wait another year to see if Lance will be ready? The clock is ticking.

Whats your point. You need a QB to win. And Shanahan doesn't have one. He may have one in Lance, that remains to be seen. We know who Jimmy is. But ultimately, after 6 season, we're seeing poorer offense than we have since it was Mullens and Beathard. We're going backward.

And it's very hard to find one. Took Bellicheck multiple years and getting fired.

We know what Kyle can be with a top one. We are also seeing what Kyle can be with jags and one above average guy who had been exceedingly average since 2020. Not much better than Bill B with the corpse of Bernie Kosar.

For me it's simple. He needs a legit QB to succeed. Jimmy isn't that. Lance may or may not be that, and Shanahan should be given more more year (the three he mortgages for 1sts) to show it. And if after next season Lance isn't leaps and bounds better than has been so far, we are forced to seek another QB and Shanahan should not be given the authority to do so.

He needs to make it work with Lance or we need another HC/QB. The roster seems good with lots of bright young stars, so the GM and staff seem good.

I don't know what pointing out the record without Brady does.

Firstly, he was able to help develop Brady into a HOF QB. Shanny surely had his chance with that by moving UP to get a future HOF in CJ Beathard.

Also, Belichick's career has largely been comprised of time with Brady.

Shanahan could never develop a QB like that. He ruins them. Yes, if we had an all time great QB, do I think Shanahan could succeed? Sure. So could I. Who the hell couldn't?

We only do because the Yorks are pathetic lazy incompetents with a poor track record, and everyone has PTSD from Tomsula and Kelly...so they're fine just waiting it out in perpetuity with a coach who has had six years to show who he is....a good play designer, poor in-game manager, poor evaluator of talent, and poor head coach...who can, if his defense is top 3 in the league, scheme enough out of his offense (that everyone makes excuses for) to make a run but ultimately not win...because his offense fails.

What HC doesn't need a legit qb to succeed? No coach is doing anything worth a damn with a qb like Jimmy unless the d is pitching shutouts. Look at Reid, always talked about being a choker never can win the big one. Finally gets a hall of fame type qb and wins, saying Kyle needs a legit qb to succeed is like saying you need air to live

To your original question:
He deserves one more season with Lance, for everyone's sake, including a potential new HC. That person would be given the option to pursue a QB in the draft (with a 1sr rounder) or a veteran or go with Lance. Shanahan needs to do one of two things to keep his job past the 2023 season: win the SB this year with Jimmy (and then ride with Jimmy indefinitely) or give Trey the 2023 season and it better look promising, much more than we've seen to date.

Which is why we should still give him another year with Trey to prove it. But after that, it'll be 3 season with Trey. We'll need to see something tangible, some indication that Lance can win a SB. Jimmy can't. Lance may. And Shanahan needs him to work. His wagon (being HC of 48ers) is hitched to Lance.

It's a damn near prerequisite for success. The best coach all time needed him to be beyond mediocre.

Traded a 7th rounder to get CJ. "Moved up". How did we ever recover from the cost.
