I was just checking out this article a few days ago at Nick Mullens thread that one of you guys posted and today a few media was talking about how Jimmy G was not throwing to some open receivers during the game. Is Shanahan basically just controlling or hand cuffing Jimmy G like a robot and wouldn't let him ad lib or throw to open receivers? Anyway I'm sure it has nothing to do with this game and maybe Jimmy G just missed them with all the chaos around him. But I'm also trying to get to know how and what Shanahan's mindset regarding his relationship with his QB and coaches. Last night and today sucks as I'm just trying to find something to hang on to regarding the 4th quarter collapse..

The point is this, Kyle Shanahan has a tendency to crap in his pants in the most critical and high pressure situations. Granted a lot of people crack under pressure, but that says Kyle Shanahan just isn't that exceptional superman head coach with ice in his veins who can perform his job in the biggest stage.

Marcus Spears made a very good point in Get Up today, Kyle Shanahan is no different to Andy Reid before he won the Super Bowl. Andy Reid got a ton of flak for years. We and the media also have been giving Kyle Shanahan a ton of praise and credit for how the 9ers played this season. Most people are fair, we give where credit is due. I am pretty sure Kyle has been enjoying the love too. But, here is the thing, when you crap in your pants in your second Super Bowl in a row, he needs to be criticized just the same.

Folks, there is just no other way to say it, Kyle Shanahan lost us this Super Bowl. When he thought he was being calm and collected, he was wasting time on the clock, not using timeouts to score like before the end of the 1st half. When the Chiefs' D started coming batting down Jimmy G's throws, he kept calling pass plays. Furthermore, when the 9ers were up 20-10 and having intercepted Mahomes, he went away from the run and did not put his foot down to close the deal!! To date, Kyle Shanahan has blown 2 Super Bowls already.

The homers can shut up here, we are not being armchair coaches here, even fxxking John Lynch thought we needed to call timeout before the half for cry out loud!!! That says it all!!!

Of course no one is saying Kyle Shanahan is all bad. We can play with the numbers, may be 75% good and 25% bad. To me, he is fantastic in play design, but his decision-making and playcalling leaves a lot to be desired. And this glaring weakness of his doesn't just get progressively, but exponentially worse in critical moments and in the biggest of games. I am not here to say what we should do with Kyle Shanahan, at least not yet, but rather to say by now we need to know to the fullest extent of what we are dealing with here in terms of Kyle Shanahan as a whole package. Do we take the good over the bad? May be? Do we need to replace him at some point if his 4th quarter collapses carry on? May be? But, at the very least, we need to start thinking about it. On that note, we have been hearing talks of contract extension already, given there are still 3 years left in the existing deal, do we slow it down or even take it off the table for now? May be? Surely, you are not going to give him another 6 years with 3 years to go on his first contract after this Super Bowl collapse right? So, there is definitely a lot to think about here.

But, for now, we need to change that initial and perhaps mis-perception of Kyle Shanahan as being an "offensive genius" to a more accurate one namely an "offensive genius who has a tendency to fold under high pressure moments until proven otherwise". That should serve all of us well in managing our expectations on the 9ers as a team under the leadership of Kyle Shanahan as the head coach.

Oh well, one thing for sure, this is going to be one heck of a long offseason. Suffering 2 Super Bowl losses in a row in 7 years really takes its toll on the fans. I am sure a lot of us have aged some in these 7 years, let's just hope we won't have to wait another 7 years for another collapse.

We just need to make sure we close out playoff games next season. But nope you people will just keep doubting us and bash shanahan jimmy g. You people make me sick

Some posters here bash shanahan and want him replaced but the minute he is gone they will come here bashing the niners for him being gone. That's how the anti-49er agenda works

I'm having a hard time understanding this mentality. If its gonna take another 15 years for shanahan to get another shot at it, count me out. And I really like the guy.

I hope those instructions are just for Mullens. Often the backup gets reined in so he doesn't blow the game.

I've been contemplating the same thing. It is difficult to know how much Kyle demands that Jimmy finds a primary read and how much he wants him to survey the field.

Kyle is the man, they played press over 1 at the end and the only receiver we had to break that was ES, he got open but JG didn't have the time to set his feet in a clean pocket and deliver the ball...

Kyle is such a good coach that it's hard to see him not being in this league for the forseeable future.

Don Shula was a very young HC (Colts at age 33) who lost two Super Bowls, one with the Colts and one with the Dolphins, before he won two in a row with the 'Fins. It can happen. (Amazingly enough, Shula's still alive. He's 90.) Shanny is decades younger than the cheaters Belicheat and Carroll. Hopefully he not only learns from this playcalling mismanagement, but acts on it appropriately.
