I want to add a RB and either a WR or LB for special teams and depth.

No doubt, there will be an array of combinations...from base to nickel...really excited to see who wins out on prominent roles.

Any particular type of RB, WR & LB you like?

No. Whoever stands out.

Kittle could be on the team as a FB/TE... not sure if that makes it easier to take four tight ends total if we don't get enough value for Celek or Vance.

I think that's whats gonna happen if nobody trades for either Vance/Celek. They both IMO can help out a TE group that needs a lil help/insurance/experience.

didn't want to quote you AB as it's a fairly long list, but I can see cuts to established starters. We've more cap room than we can shake a stick at and while it might be wasteful, I think it's possible that the philosophy is now about the best players being on the 53 regardless of cap hit. Had we been up against it financially I'd be there with you, but it's a some what unique scenario now in rebuild.

I think we will be actively trying to trade and shop some of those starters from now until the first game of the season, with a cut being the last resort. I think it will come down to best player in the scheme and system and if it means eating some dead cap space we will.

Great list AB and "very" realistic...agree with 95% of it, no doubt. But I'm in this camp as well...none of our cap hits will be anything large now that Kaepernick is gone so really, it comes down to best players/scheme fits and YOUTH. Players like Brooks and Celek and even the OL we brought in, could end up getting beat out d/t the ceiling of the youth and this coaching staff wanting to develop them their way. I think that makes this 53 guestimate more challenging.

I'm on that ship as well. From the beginning of FA the consistent message was "fit." There were certain players available that might be considered to be better players than what Lynch signed but they didn't fit the system. One of the big issues in the past was that we had a lot of players that were not good fits for the system we were running. You don't need to have the best players in every position if the ones you do have are capable of player the role they need to play in the system.

Anytime you are going to make a significant change, you are better off to make the big change the first year and start building from there as opposed to trying to phase it in. That is what I see happening and the roster will reflect that change by September. In the meantime, I hope to see some vets bring a draft choice as opposed to being cut. Brooks and Celek would be a couple of those although Brooks still has some value, IMO.

I have a good feeling Thomas and Foster will be just fine.

No question...if those two come through and Tartt at SS, we'd be golden. Just praying for some consistent edge rush too. I think our base down run defense is going to be miles better. With an extra man in the box though, if our rushers don't get there, our secondary could get torched.

I'm not too worried about our edge rush. Switching to a 1-gap scheme with the personnel we have on DL...we should see the pocket collapsing from the front much more than we have in recent years.

That is a good point. Aside from the 1T/NT and sometimes, the strong-side DE (Thomas), most of the time, 3 of the 4 DL will be one-gapping and attacking. In nickel, in comes the speedy edge rushers from the inside and edges. This is another added benefit of having tough, physical press CB's on the edges b/c the QB will be looking to get rid of the ball quickly but will look outside and see two CB's immediately in the WR's faces...next progression (pressure coming), Bowman, Foster and Tartt/Reid patrolling the middle...next progression (pressure there)...deep post...a rangy Ward deep. Sack.
IF Ward bombs at S we can just snag Derwin James next year. Better prospect than Adams and Hooker

What rock have you been hiding under? Have you not read our 2018 game plan yet?

He will be impossible to get. We loaded up with picks next year to trade for a QB.

we're signing Kirk Cousins to teach C.J. (Cousins Jr. ) and the QB we trade our 2nds for to move up to draft.

So if this young fella is better than both safeties we won't have a shot.

I thought it was a typo...added back LB Brock Coyle, removed P Brock Miller. OP updated. Good eye, as always.

Two more cuts to go...any guesses?
