If I understand correctly he means the fanbases have somehow acquired wmd and doing a sort of thermonuclear war during the bye week, not good

Very best thing Lance did for this franchise was get injured.

I actually have a lot of confidence in what Shanahan could've done with Trey Lance. At the time, Elijah Mitchell was our RB and was a very solid one. Deebo Samuel was coming off his All-Pro season. It would've been a heavy run scheme with Mitchell, Deebo, and Lance... We didn't get to see it because of a monsoon in Chicago, but the run game looked there was potential in the one drive against the Seahawks (or Cardinals?), before he broke his ankle.
The vision was there: it was to be a three-headed run-heavy offense to set-up easy one/two-read play action passes for Lance. It would not have looked like what it does with Purdy, where Brock is superlative at processing and reading coverages. There would've been a lot of bumps in the road, and he would've had to been carried by a stellar team. I actually think it could've worked out in the long run, but it would've taken some commitment to develop a very raw player. Unfortunately for Trey, the situation didn't work out for him, and he's relegated to just being a backup behind established QB's.
But anyway... hindsight is 20/20. It didn't work out with Trey. It's very much a big swing and a miss, trying to get a franchise QB for the next 10 years. The lack of first round capital really set us back, and I think only in the last few years, have our drafts started to really improve. We lucked out finding Brock Purdy in the 7th round and that he can operate Shanahan's offense at its highest level.
