Yeah, win some, lose some. Can't win 'em all. We'll see how this season shapes up, but I'm hoping our 2025 and 2026 drafts makes the difference and get us to the big dance this year and finally get that #6🏆. I enjoyed all 5 🏆's, and I'll enjoy the 6th 🏆 too!
I think we're probably another good draft and FA period away from the SB. The past two offseasons have been encouraging, but there are still positions that need upgrading. Missing Kittle for the majority of the season will set the running game back. I think we make the playoffs, but exit in the divisional round again. I want to be wrong though.

I agree, probably another offseason cycle away from a 🏆, but I like how (I think) they are approaching injuries. If you are going to have injuries year in and year out, then stock the roster with loaded young RAS athletes behind the starters -- that just need that in-game reps to get better (a la Brock Purdy). We all know the injury bug has already started biting (Guerendo). Without Guerendo, we'll see more Black and Jordan James. I'm glad they drafted a young and athletic RB (RAS score of 9.14) considering Guerendo's injury.

The two 2026 first round trade downs got us an extra 2nd, 3rd, and 5th rounder and I hope they do something similar in 2027. We both think the 49ers are going to be drafting in the high twenties again like this year - and will be out of the money for the blue chip players that usually go round 1, Pick 1 to 15. But they have a shot at getting more 2nd tier players by trading down and solidifying a lot of positions for next year (and to sacrifice to the football injury gods).

Like I keep reminding people...Rams are in a different timeline than we are.

I find it funny that some of the most vocal fans, claiming last year's record wasn't because of the players/coaching we had but more because of the schedule, are the same ones most vocal about how the 49ers should've made the Garrett trade.

Forget the fact that it requires Cleveland to want what we're able to offer. Forget the fact that you yourselves felt this team isn't as close to being a major threat for a SB run...

What we badly need is for this 2026 draft class to be like the Seahawks 2012 one. A class that was hated by most people but ended up being the foundation for their SB run. And really we have a chance for 3 classes in 2024, 2025 and 2026 to do what happened for Seattle.

2010 they brought in Okung, Earl Thomas, Golden Tate, Kam Chancellor(damn...)
2011 they brought in KJ Wright, Sherm, Byron Maxwell and Malcolm Smith
2012 as mentioned was the key with Bobby Wager, Russell Wilson and Bruce Irvin.

We lucked into our Russell Wilson in 2022 but need these last 3 drafts to come together and produce big results.

But back to the Rams making their move, it's not even about having the SB at their house. That's just a coincidence. They really were the SB favorites last year and Seattle stole it from them with that fluke 2 point conversion. They went out and added 2 vet corners already buttoning up their biggest weakness last year. Adding Garrett is a no brainer really. Verse was good but Garrett is a game changer. Makes it that much easier for their secondary now. It will be tough to beat them.

Meanwhile while we had a nice season especially given our injuries we still have too many unknowns. Partly on how guys will come back from those injuries and when. The Australia game makes it less likely Bosa, Mykel and Kittle will be back for week 1. Who knows about week 2+. Our safeties are still a big question mark and the hope is a better front 7 helps but that's still a big question mark. We added players on the OL but we haven't seen them play for us yet. Way too many questions to go after a guy like Garrett especially the cost it would take for us without a player like Verse to build a trade package around.

Different timeline?....outside of Purdy most of our stars are hitting 30 in the next season or two or have already past that mark with arguably our best player nearly 40. We're in win now or rebuild....

I think the team feels the same after bringing back 29 year old Dre and making our biggest signing this offseason 32 year old Mike Evans

LA is also a younger team than us, we're carrying the 2nd oldest team in the league

I also hated both picks.

to be fair they are both still in the league and serviceable.

Thomas was considereda top prospect when they selected him. It's not like he was a reach. He was a similar player to Aaron Donald in size and style of play. He played inside and outside in college but never really found a position in ther NFL

Kinlaw was a physical specimen that had an injury when they drfted him. He struggled to get on the field and his development was set back. Another example of a player that had the potential but never reached it.

which all teams make these types of picks.

people are so blinded by hindsight bias that they cant genuinely grade draft classes.

Yes different timeline. It's not all about age. It's about roster makeup and status. That includes unknown factors of how some of your top players will look post serious injury or when they'll be back. It's about holes on your roster you haven't filled with proven players.

Yes we have some aging stars. We also have an influx of younger players(tho some of them are mid 20s vs early) add in guys like Trent and our LS being 40 that will bring up the age for sure.

Rams didn't make their move cuz of their age. It's because they were a dominant team last year and had few holes to fill while not having any major injuries to worry about or relying on unknown young players to step up their play.

So if we swap out Evans, TW, Kittle, CMC, Kirk for random 25 year olds will we get better? Will everyone feel better?

Our D is the 11th youngest, it's our O that pushes the numbers up, but when you consider those "old" guys are still some of the best in their positions then *shrugs*.

Lynch has a home Super Bowl and gets rid of half the roster and doesn't make any significant moves to push us over the top and we watch the Seahawks win the SB in our stadium.

Snead has a home Super Bowl and adds the best player in the game.

It would be nice to have a competent GM.
I don't think I need to state the obvious but keep politics out of these conversations.
I'm sure Lynch is on the phone every day with GMs from around the league. Most trades don't happen with one phine call. There are usually a lot of feelers put out before anything happens. Just because Lynch hasn't pulled the trigger on a blockbuster trade doesn't mean he hasn't been working on one. My guess is far more deals fall through than we ever hear about.

I've definitely been on the "we need a real GM along with Kyle as HC to really take the next step" but having said that it's straight up wrong to claim this regime has done a poor job. I've mentioned it several times how they had us well in range to win a ring at least twice. Both games easily could've been won simply with more favorable officiating our way, let alone due to injuries we had that played a huge impact or the player mistakes in those games that had nothing to do with coaching or personnel decisions.

But also fans forget how many trades the team has actually made over their tenure here, specifically later in the offseason. Some key ones

Laken Tomlinson - starting LG for a while
Jimmy Garoppolo - we can argue if this was a smart trade in hindsight but obviously a big one at the time
Emmanuel Sanders - key addition that helped us get to the SB
Jordan Willis - key depth rusher and critical to us beating GB in the divisional round in 2021
Charles Omenihu - key depth at edge
CMC - changed our whole offense
Chase Young and Randy Gregory - extra depth for 2023 run

Even just last year we added Brian Robinson, Keion White and Bryce Huff.

Maybe all those moves aren't as flashy as CMC or Myles Garrett but they've definitely not been shy about adding guys via trade and the bigger moves happened when they felt stronger about their roster.

If they don't get what they like in camp from certain players they'll make another move.

This is what pisses me off about John Lynch and his consultants. I was pounding the table to go all in due to a Super Bowl at home and he just sat back and said it didn't fit into the teams plans (or something of the sort). Imagine if they traded a 2nd for Quinnen Williams and a 3rd for Jaelan Phillips last season like Dallas and Philly did, where would the 9ers have been? Sure it was a 2026 2nd round and 2027 1st round picks for Williams but they would have held on to their 2026 1st round pick.
