Lucked into Shanahan but Lynch as a GM? Wtf?? So many qualified GMs 49ers interviewed...and in the end - they decided to hire a guy who has ZERO experience working in a NFL Front Office. He has ZERO experience as a scout at any level. I understand, so many potential GM candidates rejected 49ers. But, to hire a guy who has never held a position that is in no way related to a day-2-day job profile of a GM is unbelievable. I'm sure Lynch is a smart guy...he was a smart player...but that has NOTHING to do with being a GM. Why take the risk at this time? --------------- edit: After having some time to digest this news...wish him all the best and I hope he proves ppl wrong. Still don't understand why we needed to take such a risk but it is what it is now. I do have to say - his first presser made a positive impression.

Most important 4 positions to have star players in 21st century NFL are, IMO:

1. QB
2. Pass rush specialist (OLB or DE, depending on scheme)
3. CB
4. WR

A defense that can have a pass rush and also shut down one side of a field is golden.

I just don't want the 49ers to be the kings of free agency. Much rather save the cap for Cousins and maybe Terrelle Pryor or Alshon Jeffrey.

Agreed. One could argue Safety over WR at that #4 spot, but I think that is more last decade (Bob Sanders, Polamalu, Mike Brown, Sean Taylor, Ed Reed) where the run/pass offense was a bit more balanced. Nice insight.

I'd be down. He'll be 26 in August. Good size at 6'0" 192. Played at an elite level at a premium position. Thats the kind of guy I'm okay with spending money on.

I'm cool with Brooks and Brock staying and cool with them bouncing as well. They could be trade bait in the draft when people miss out on the prospects they were targeting or the board not falling their way. Get the QB,WR,OL first..pass rusher&CB if Ward truly is moving.
