Lucked into Shanahan but Lynch as a GM? Wtf?? So many qualified GMs 49ers interviewed...and in the end - they decided to hire a guy who has ZERO experience working in a NFL Front Office. He has ZERO experience as a scout at any level. I understand, so many potential GM candidates rejected 49ers. But, to hire a guy who has never held a position that is in no way related to a day-2-day job profile of a GM is unbelievable. I'm sure Lynch is a smart guy...he was a smart player...but that has NOTHING to do with being a GM. Why take the risk at this time? --------------- edit: After having some time to digest this news...wish him all the best and I hope he proves ppl wrong. Still don't understand why we needed to take such a risk but it is what it is now. I do have to say - his first presser made a positive impression.

He said they had meetings today and went over draft prospects

Was on 95.7 earlier and said the same thing

On KNBR he said they studied a lot of college QBs today or recently.

He was on KNBR and a,so did an interview with Florio on PFT. Just listened to them both back to back so the below could be a mix of the two:

He said that he interviewed a D.C. Candidate in San Diego - must have been last week. Made a joke that his wife had to run to Home Depot and get a grease board so JL would have that for the interview.

Indicated that he spent all day today looking at QB's; later said something that made me think that it was primarily looking at our current QB's today

Was asked about the tough SB loss and how that might affect Kyle. Had a great answer saying that Kyle will learn from it and be stronger (and use is as fuel). Also said good thing he learned those lessons on another team or something like that.

Some good stuff about the decision to take this job and how he knows he can be successful.

I continue to be more and more impressed with him. A very long way too go but I'm starting to think that folks that made fun of this hire and panned it may eat those words someday. what a great leader and spokesman for the franchise.

Robert Saleh was just hired this offseason and since they are moving to LA i don't think he would be in SD.
