Agree
TV gigs are almost impossible to leave.
After years of 7 days a week and 12-18 hour days - ppl. get worn out.
TV = $$$$, time off w/family, low stress, etc
Gee, which one would I want to do?

Aqib talib
Peyton manning
Tj Ward
Emmanuel sanders
Demarcus ware
Sb here we come!!!! We need a general manager that isn't stubborn and will overspend for players that we need to provide a championship run or at least be competitive. Having a team with the most salary cap doesn't do anything for the team or the fans.
Agree
BUT, he isn't coming.
What he said about the Patriots and "superstructure" was brilliant!

He has discussed the importance of team identity and leadership for years. He summed up the issues with the 49ers perfectly: Ownership only cares about making money, and the team will ultimately fail (no matter the GM or Coach) without a strong team identity and leadership.
He may not have the experience to be a GM, but there must be a role for Steve Young on the 49ers.
What Young actually said is the Yorks don't necessarily not care about winning, but they care more about making money, and because they can still make truckloads of money even when the team is losing -- even losing in historically bad fashion -- that they have no accountability whatsoever to really get things right.
It's about priorities, and until the owners care at least as much about winning as they do about making money, the team will be lucky to have any on-field success -- specifically any LASTING success -- in the future.
I completely agree that Young should be part of the organization in some capacity. I don't think he'd be a fit for GM, but he's a great football mind and has a background that I believe would be a huge benefit for the team's front office.
Yeah. Steve Young would give them instant credibility but will instantly be the most loved and powerful guy in the buildin. Yorks will not like that. They are more into yes men.
Yes, that is why I wouldn't be surprised if they announce in the offseason.. "Introducing our new GM...... Jim Tomsula!"
We're all stuck in wait-and-see mode right now. I don't know what we're going to do, but we have to do something. You don't "stay the course" when the course the team is on is looking like an eventual 1-15 record for the season.

I'm glad the Yorks are making $. I know most want to see them suffer so they sell but if they're making $ that means they're flexible and can make changes. See how we axed Tomsula after a year. They're not selling so no need for day dreaming.
I do think we're trying to put up a winner just bad plans. So change the plans and I'd love to see Young in an Elway role for us.

I Just sometimes like to step in and correct you NC
We are focusing on the present and the ineptitude of the Yorks and Baalke, so people need to stop trying to justify the JH firing by making constant references things from that time to make themselves feel better about where this team is. As you said, we are past it and it's clear who is failing this franchise . And that's the last I will speak of him
His exact quotes:
First link in the OP...his quote's start @ 11:50:
"It's OK, but the problem is...Trent is right in that...He's (Dilfer) not wrong...Trent's not wrong but that's a small piece of the iceberg." ~ Young
I agree with Young. TD 'was' talking about Harbaugh's last year, Tomsula and now, Kelly. I agree with Tomsula and Kelly but not Harbaugh's last year. But TD's premise was not incorrect either.
I heard the interview and I know what he was referencing. He's on KNBR almost weekly so I'm well versed in where he stands on this

I think Steve has the ability and smarts to emulate John Elway in running a franchise. The Bowlin family loved Elway, I don't think Steve is on the Yorks' Christmas card list.

And guys, what did Steve say? We need a quarterback!! We need a quarterback to build the team around and without a quarterback we don't stand a chance. So, think about that for a moment before you carry on screaming for Myles Garrett!!
And he also agreed with Dilfer's comments as well...just noted that it's just part of the issue. Again, both are right on many levels IMHO.
He never agreed with anything TD said in regards to player development under JH. He along with Brent Jones and other former players have been very vocal in their criticisms of Baalke and the talent, or lack there of, that he has brought in. I listen to these guys all the time on my way way home from work
You REALLY seem to think everything is referencing Harbaugh. People have moved on. All the comments now are related to the CURRENT state of the franchise. Listen to the interview again.

I heard the interview on the radio and he was definitely not agreeing with TD. He said you can continue to bring in the best athletes in the world but if you don't build the superstructure, like the patriots have, it doesn't matter. he was talking about building a culture. we had a culture and identity under harbaugh and baalke has failed to reproduce that, along with failing in hires and drafting. and I know what Td and NC keep saying; that we are not developing these players properly, that they are talented but we don't get the best out of them. my question then is why do all these guys fail when they go to other teams after being cut by us? because they suck! if they were so great better systems would highlight that right?!

Young was so right when he talks about hitting a vein for a few years vs. what the Patriots, GB, Pitt, etc. have developed. Patriots are the best example because the have mediocre nobodies that play within a system and have created a level of competition that elevates their games' to a whole different level. We hit a vein that could have been a geyser with Harbaugh but Baalke and York forced him out and dismantled the system and identity.
Young is so spot on in this interview.

He has more heart the 99% if not 100% of the people in the organization and he is not even on that team anymore. All I know is that when it is time for Frank Gore to retire the 49ers better sign him, so he can retire a 9er.

NOT since the days of Eddie D and those Rooney Family from Pittsburgh and of course, the late Al Davis did owner even care about winning... the NFL had became THE GREATEST SPORTS ON EARTH that making millions and millions of dollars have taken away the pain of teams not winning..
In fact, you take a look around the league, and with all honesty, the only owner I FEEL THAT CARES ABOUT WINNING is Mr. Arthur Blank of the Falcons..
This year, I really wish that the Falcons could get to the Super Bowl and win it all.. The guy is GENUINE in my opinion.

i think jerry jones and dan snyder care about winning too because theyre always making stupid decisions in over paying for people in order to get better and win. Jerry may be the anti christ but he does love his team and wants them to win. i wish our owners gave a s**t half as much as that dude does

Paul Allen of the Seahawks. Not his primary source of income; he just writes checks and stays out of the way.
