One would think that someone who worked through their anxiety issues to the great success Young had would be admired for it, not ridiculed and diminished.

But then to turn that around and say "I don't know if you can read" - I don't need that crap in my life.

This. Steve will always be The Man.

If he had John Taylor for another couple of years and also had Haley for a few, I'd say he'd have added another two (at minimum) Lombardi's on our team. (Two would be minused from the Dallas organization.)

John Taylor was highly underrated.
Yes he was.

Joe Montana had a better winning record, better postseason passing production, better Super Bowl performances, worse pass protection, less rushing support, less quality aerial targets, and had won more accolades.

Steve Young had better regular season passing production, regular season rushing production, postseason rushing production, career passing production, career rushing production, and played with less defensive support.

Not so in this regard.... Young was amazing in his one and only Super Bowl appearance...just as good as Montana's best SB performance

He would have been the #1 receiver on any other team.

And Sanders as well. Sanders even made 4-foot Eric Davis look good. Taking one whole side of the field and taking out a team's #1 WR was enormous for us...not to mention the confidence and intangibles he brought to the team esp. for big games. He relished the competition where before, I felt our secondary sort of played tight and afraid.
Montana was the GOAT. But when Young was at the height of his game, the 49ers were a machine. A beautiful, efficient, highflying machine.
The machine is returning!

All we had to do was trade young for derick thomas. that would have fixed the defense and because the only reason we got rid of haley was because he hated steve young we never would have had to trade charles. you then give joe the while bono takes over in the future.
If the Derreck Thomas for Steve Young trade had come off. With Haley Thomas and Tim Harris as linebackers; we might have gone through the next season without a Touch Down scored against us. What an amazing line up of linebackers.

Derrick Thomas was the best linebacker of the 90s. We would have been invincible.

Ok so when where we suppose to trade Young? Haley was traded after the 1991 season. So does Young garner a Thomas after a somewhat injured filled '91 season? Now if you're waiting until after the 1992 season when joe was traded then Haley was gone already.

We did just fine in the trade that was made. We got a first round pick for a 37 year old QB that eventually became Stubblefield. Personally I'm not trading 2 more years of joe for 8 years of Steve.
