Lets start off with a quick recap of the season before getting into position group and individual updates. I said it last year and I'll say it again, I'd rather lose 28-42 than 28-3. True, a loss is a loss, but just from watching this year compared to last year, at least I know I'm going to see a touchdown or two. The game was close at half, low scoring. Then Carolina started to blow us out. Next thing you know they get too relaxed and we are one score away. We obviously didn't continue the comeback, but I liked the courage of the players and the play calling. The big plays killed us.

Game 3 vs Seattle: This game was over before it started. Yeah I was being a homer and thought we might've had a chance with all the injuries Seattle had, but that was a lie. We were torched form the very beginning of the game and it was more so the defense that let us down. Seattle went up quickly with big plays and moved through our D with ease. Down 14-0, there was no way we were going to make a comeback with Gabbert as our qb against that D. I was disappointed how bad our D-Line looked against the worst O-Line in the league.

Game 4 vs Cowboys: I thought we would win this game as the Cowboys were nowhere near the caliber of the two teams we had faced the previous two weeks. It looked promising, going up 14-0 and limiting the Cowboys to punts through the first 20 minutes of the games. Then their O-line started taking over, a horrible call by the official helped set up their first TD. This was a close game even until early fourth. However, once Bowman went out, the game was over! That o-line and Zeke just ran right through us. If Bo hadn't gotten hurt, I still think we would've won, even with a cold cold offense.

Game 5 vs. Arizona: No way I thought we would've this game, Arizona being 1-3 at the time and with all that talent, even minus Palmer, no way. Again we go up early 7-0 thanks to Hyde and even Gabbert keeping the drive alive and J.Kerley. Arizona then goes on to shut us down on D. Chandler Jones had himself a game. Our O-line was very ineffective and downright bad. The worst player on the field was our qb. Gabbert missed 2 deep balls both for TDs. Again this game was close late in the game. It was a 7 point game late in the 3rd at 14-21. We gain some momentum and boom, the pick that would even make you call for Kaep. It was a game killer. Our rush defense was torched for a second straight week.

Now that I got that quick recap in, I want to take into account that we were in all these games except for the Seattle game and have been leading into the 2nd quarter in 4 out of 5 games. That has a huge correlation to my next point.

Coaching: Coaching is not the problem. We have continually come out hot and scored points on our opening possession. I like Chip Kelly. He has a system that works, we just don't have the players. Even Jim O'neil isn't that bad, it's not our fault our whole team forget who to tackle in the Seattle game, our D-Line can't ever get a run push, or that all of linebackers would be backups on other teams. I think he, like Chip have been dealt a bad hand. I like his exotic blitzes and having packages for players to get them in the game very much. I don't know who our D-Line coach is, but damn these guys are sucking. Coaching grade B- , I think the coaches are getting these guys to overachieve early in games and than the talent level catches up and we just aren't there.

QB- Okay Gabbert is trash, he looks goos on one drive, or one throw, or one run, and then he falls apart. He's played 50 games in the NFL now, he is not going to get better. He is career back up and wouldn't mind keeping him on the roster next year, but definetly not in competition for first place. Kaep is not going to make this team a winner Kaep has his own demons, he still hasn't proved he can read defenses and I don't think he overcame that by sitting on the bench, or kneeling, or whatever he does. He may have run this system before, and I agree it's time to see what he can do. I don't think he can get the other guys to follow him or let them be his leader. He may win us one extra game or so but we won't finish any better than 5-11. Ponder is a guy I wouldn't mid seeing play next week. He had some great touch in preseason and looked solid in the game after only being on the team for 4 days.

Most underrated: Ponder Most Overrated: Kaep

RB- Shout out to Hyde, who is just beasting out there. His stats may be boosted due to some garbage time play, but this guy gives it his all every play and is our best skill player on offense by far. Best thing for him this year is him being healthy. I want to see him healthy all year, knowing we can expect that going forward. Although I would like to see M. Davis in there to spell him a little more. Hyde is the clear favorite as our team MVP with Bo out. Draughn is okay, serviceable. Davis needs more work. But this group would challenge every NFL roster.

Most underrated: Mike Davis Most overrated: none

WR: This group as a whole is terrible, Like Charles Barkley talk, "trrble". And we knew that coming into the season and didn't even try to upgrade-Baalke???. Dorial Green Beckham was a guy we should've targeted in a trade along with Marvin Jones in the offseason. Our #1 Smith, is more like a #3 on any other team, he's a one trick Pony who can't even do that half the time. Thank god for Kerley, give this guy an extension now, as he fits Chips offense perfectly and he killed the Honey Badger in the slot last game. Great pick up. Patton is a special teamer that plays wide receiver. Thats about it out, other than that we rotate out young guys and unknowns for wideouts #4 and #5 spots.

Most overrated: Smith Most underrated: Kerley

TE: This group looked great week one and even week 2. Then disappeared, what's the difference, McDonald got hurt. He is an impact player for us even with his questionable hands, but god damn stay healthy and make plays for us. Celek is decent. Bell is still a project. This group is young and still no one wants to break out from the pack although I think Mc Donald will do so when healthy again,

OL: Wow, what a difference a coach makes, Tomsula deserved to be fired just for his starting O-line every week with better talent left on the bench. Our o-line is solid, Gabbert has had time all year, whether he realized it our not, minus the Arizona game. Hyde has had some holes to run through, not every play, but they are there and sometimes he misses them. This group is by far the most polished and the most talented on our team, by far... I chose Tiller as most underrated because a good as Brown has been, so has Tiller. Tiller has been the one doing such a great job the #1 draft pick can't get on the field.

DL: The most disappointing position group of our team. There were areas of our team were we knew coming into the season we were going to suck, qb, wr, olbs,This group was suppose to be the s**t. Two high #1 picks, Quinton Dial, Ian Williams, Glen Dorsey, we were set. Nope, nope nope, Buckner needs to disengage and quit hugging guys. He is still our most disruptive D-lineman, which is saying something, and I'm not giving up on him. But he needs to go back to basics and shed this O-lineman and not let them get into his body, its that simple. Buckner has played more snaps and better than any D-Lineman IMO. He still chases and tackles too much for me instead of attacking the qb, but the talent is there and he just needs experience. Dial has been solid, not spectacular, but solid. William got hurt before the season, which hurt us, and Dorsey is obviously still hurt or he'd be playing. Purcel is just out of his league and the main reason we are or feels like we are last in run defense. We are just getting pounded. Week in week out, doesn't matter the opponent or the rb.

Most overrated: Armstong Most underrated: Buckner

LBs: This position group was going to suck even with Bowman, we still haven't replaced Aldon or Willis and now we have to replace Bowman, poor Bo-love you man. Our linebackers suck. Lynch is okay, but does the same outside rush move every play. Whilhote, Bellore, Skov, Harold, ; trash trash trash. These are all backups that will take turns starting for us this year. I watched a play at 14:07 of the 4th against the Cards I believe during goal line and Harold was pancaked by Brown, the wide receiver, are you kidding me. I think Lynch looks good just because all the other players are so bad,

CB: This position looked promising going into the year, and they still have a chance to be as solid as the O-line going forward if they continue to get experience and a change is made. Brock is okay, he is almost garaunteed to give up a jumpball TD a game, there is no way he way he should be our #1 corner or even starting IMO. It's too bad Ward got hurt, he was playing lights out, minus the K. Benjamin matchup, but that was just stupid on the coaches part. I guess they weren't here when B.Marshall roasted him in the exact same way. Sleeper alert; Rashard Robinson is a baller, he plays with Swag and looks like other guys play off his energy, has been a playmaker every time he's in the game. He needs to start and go against the other teams #1. D. Johnson needs to play, he's always burried on the depth chart, behind guys like Reaser and others in the past, why?

Most overrated: Brock Most underrated: Ward

S: This was supposed to be another position of strength and right now we are about 100lbs away from our max rep. Bethea has been average, making a play here or there but nothing significant. Reid, I don't even know he's in the game until he drops another interception. Tartt needs to start, I'm sorry, but he's a playmaker, Pick which one needs to sit but Tartt needs to start, horrible call against Dallas against him.

Overall, we need help, which is not coming this year, so what do you do as the next choice? You get the young guys experience, and see what you have for going into next year.

New Starters: QB: Ponder (I know what we got in Kaep )

RB: We are good here

WR: Unfortunately there is no one else to bring in, a trade is definitely not out of the question-Baalke???

OL: Garnett (Beattles hasn't been bad at all but Garnett needs to play and I really like Tiller as a part of future line as well)

TE: If Vance gets healthy, I think this position is his now and next year.

DL: Blair (he needs some snaps, there are others he can take those snaps from)

LB: unfortunately there,is no one else to, a trade should definitely be looked at -Baalke??

CB: Robinson, Ward, D.Johnson, Brock, Reaser in that order

S:Tartt needs to start, the other two are interchangeable and one could even be traded.

As you can see we can make some minor moves but this year is over. There is no Tom Brady coming back after suspension. Willis is not coming out of retirement. There will be no big name guys coming back to us, as we are obviously seller at this point. I didn't want to make this a Baalke thread, because this board has too many of them, but he didn't do this team any favors missing on players in 2012 and 2013 alike. Even the once great 2011 has nothing to show for it, and that was only 5 years ago. I'm still rooting for my team week in and week out, but after last season I'm done being a homer, thinking the ship will get right anytime soon. Our top talent evaluator has to be able to pick skill players on offense and pass rushers on D. Things to look forward to: Maybe some decent qb play, Hyde staying healthy, Kerley establishing himself as part of the future. McDonald getting healthy and playing like it. Our O-line finishing as one of the best in the league. Our D-Line getting fully healthy (Dorsey, Buckner, Armstead) and living up to preseason expectations. Lynch learning a countermove. Robinson becoming the steal of the 2016 draft. Ward playing like a top NFL corner when healthy. Tartt kicking one of those Safeties to the bench due to great play. Pinion finishing as a top 5 punter. Playing the spoiler at the end of the year and keeping teams out of the playoffs. Chip continues to prove his system works, just the talent is lacking. Well done, D money...well done. Massive retirements ,many out of nowhere, at end of 2014 season...Borland, then AD(I think that yr), Willis...altho had to be expected, cowboy...same, and on it went. 2015 tomsul...what Else need be said. Kap takes a powder in first half of 2015, but looked equally bad last half of 2014. Gab finishes 2015, then takes a dive into an empty pool in last 4 games. DL gets wiped out with injury bug, WRs never take the wake up call, McD hurt, CBs still 4 yrs later and not set....Ss the same , and one brite lite...the OL...thank the good Lord for them...the heart and pivotal center of the team. LBs a total, complete wipeout .Coaching major league improvement. Kerley a crazy find.

Other than that, hey, we're just fine. Right now there MUST be emphasis put on finding out who we have on bench that shouldn't be there , and also starters we need to send on their way. CBs, WRs, DL, LBs, and last but not least, FR QB...that is list of needs for next yr, and NT is one also .

Then once and for all, we need to get healthy. Never do I recall with this kind of injury bug. Never.

No more ALL ACL team. No more 12 or 13 picks...bundle some of those up and get better quality but fewer players . That doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out.
