SF 49ers @ CAR Panthers Pregame Thread - 2016 Season Week 2

This is going to be a tough game being on the road, short week and early start against a very good team. I think we have a good shot to win this game if our O-line & defense play like they did last night

well on D we will not be able to put 9 to 10 people in the box and get away with it

i am confident in our run D (panthers have a great run O) but i have concerns about our secondary especially against olsen benjaman and funchess who are BIG targets and ginn who is very fast

Our Defense will hold Carolina to 24 points.

Our offense is good for 20.

We will need a strip sack TD or tipped ball pick 6 to beat the Panthers.

So my predicted hero of the game will be Ahmad Brooks.

they have a solid OL but I personally believe that we have the best defensive line in the NFL.
Edge: SF DL

OL vs DL:
again, I believe we may have the best OL if not a top 5 right now.

LBs vs RBs and TEs:
We have Bowman, the best LB in the NFL and now, we finally have speed at both ILB spots and solid ability from OLB spots. Brooks is legit. Tank is unproven. Olsen is good, but I think Ray Ray is the game changer here.

RBS and TEs vs LBs:
Can't deny CAR LBS as I think they can handle our TEs but I'm not so sure if they can handle Hyde.
Edge: slight edge to CAR but very slight.

DB vs WRs: Benjamin is a beast no matter who you put on him. Only way we stop him is with bracket coverage. Ginn can change a game and will be used in different ways. I really like what we are doing with Reid, Tartt and Ward but I think these WRs would have their way with us if their QB has time.
Edge: CAR, just too much talent their.

WRs vs DBs: we don't have any impactful WRs who can consistently win one on one matchups. The question is, how good or bad are their rookie DBs?
Edge: SF because of experience alone.

X factor: Will we let Cam move the chains with his mobility? Our defensive speed is crazy fast and our DL is strong enough to bring him down quickly. We won't know until a play breaks down. We have something similar in Gabbert but won't know either until someone makes a mistake or someone makes a great play.
Edge: nobody which is why it is called a X factor.

Coaching: I think we have them here and it is mainly due to how organized Chip Kelly is. Been a long time since I have seen a SF team play such a disciplined game.

Turnovers: I am a big believer in the law of averages and they say CAR Defense was primarily good last season because they had a whopping +20 turnover margin last year. I think the second team was at +11. That was a big reason for their TOP and Defensive stats/success. Law of averages AND is being a very fast, aggressive and smart defense from last season tells me we will go from being in the bottom of the league in turnovers to moving up by a vast amount.

Even if they dont win, if they're competitive against carolina, i wiuld be happy. But let's face it, this is the best team in the nfc that almost went undefeated in the regular season last year and we just got rid of dumbsula. Oh yeah, its their home opener too...

I forgot to include the rest factor. That is huge and could be the main reason we come out flat.

The +20 turnovers was the biggest reason.

Also, they only had 1 tough game last year, SEA.

About our DL being the best I strongly disagree because while we have lots of young talents and depth there other teams are way more solid than us(Jets for example). And Bowman isn't the best LBer in football anymore, it's name is Luke Kuelchy.

Also our RB/TE are not better than Carolina's LBers. They have the best linebackers corp in football while we have a very good but injury-prone RB and no one special at TE.

How can you be so sure that Kuechly is better than Bowman? He's had a few big turnovers in the past couple years, but so has Bowman. Bowman looks to have regained more of his pre-injury form. Prior to his injury, Bowman was the best linebacker in the NFL. He looked very close to 2013 form yesterday as he was terrorizing the Rams all over the field wherever the ball was.

If you have NFL game pass you can watch the Eagles games against the Panthers the past two years. Chip has had some success. 1-1 in those matchups.

Short week against the defending NFC Champs.
I think we play strong and stay in the game, but lose out in the end.

Our RB's/TEs are better IMO because the depth in both those spots. I also don't consider KB a beast and I believe the Rams WRs are just as good if not better. I can't wait to see Robinson on KB, I think Jimmy can take him too but Id keep a close eye because of the length. I think Jimmy can completely take Ginn out of the game. DJ on Funchess.

I don't think Cam will run too much because he's one hit away from being under the concussion protocol.

I don't think they can put up 24+ points on this D. I think if we score 27, we can beat them. 24 might be just enough.
