Should Christian ponder make the team ?

I think if Gabbert and Kap are both healthy and on the 53 then there is no point to keeping Ponder. Might be a good option to have on speed dial in case someone gets hurt during the season though.
dont have room for a 3rd QB

I would like to see him play with the 1s first before I'd make that statement, but I wouldn't be surprised if Ponder did out play him. Gabbert has had plenty of chances to shine and has looked mediocre at best. Like most of our receivers, it feels like we have a bunch of decent backups but no real starters. Hopefully Kap shows something next week, otherwise I would like to see what Ponder can do with more time in the offense.

Yes better than grabbert , I think kaep is better than both potentially tho, we know he can take a team to the super bowl

Most likely scenario. I think Blaine and Ponder are one in the same as far as what they bring to the table. We aren't cutting Blaine for Ponder and Kap is a different type of QB than both of them so it just is what it is, regardless of how Ponder looks the rest of the way. Ponder is more than likely just a camp arm and this is simply a two-way battle between Blaine and Kap and whoever loses will be the backup, simple as that. Driskel will be on the team as well which makes Ponder the odd man out

that was the ck of 2012. i hope he gets back to that. i hope he has a great week. i hope he lights it up vs green bay making the decision who to start tough for chip. if ck has a bad week and a bad game then blaine starts and despite what some think. i do not think that will be tragic... now once the bullets start to fly for real i have a right to change my mind. will reconvene this discussion till next monday

I liked a bit of what he said in his post game interview on the Niners' website. The TD pass he threw was on a play he had never run before, Chip showed it to him on the sideline because he thought it would be effective vs the look they were getting from the D. He also said Dres was supposed to be his 3rd check down, but when he saw cover 0 he skipped the second read knowing that Dres would be open.

I honestly don't know if that's a normal thing for a QB to do, but I liked that he could do that on a play he just learned.

Impressive, considering the amount of time he has been with the team
We probably wont have room for him. Already looking at stashing Driskel on the practice squad. I think that the little flash of success last weekend should earn him an extended look with better talent this week just to see though. If Kap and Gabbert cant seize the job it doesn't hurt to kick the tires a little longer. But in reality I fully suspect he will be a late cut and at the top of the speed dial if somebody gets hurt. I am not sure he is really much worse or better than what we have but that is more damning of Kap and Gab than glowing of Ponder.
I assume we see Kap this week. If not, something is up(trade, etc). Then we get to see how he stacks up vs gab/Driskell/ponder. I think our QBing this yr is going to be by committee, on a week to week basis...unless the starter tanks, eg 2 pick 6s and 2 more INTs. If we can limp along like that, then next yr we get our franchise Qb. If the D turns out to be a top 10...or dare I say even better...then we do better than limp along with our two QBs. Frankly, all I want to do is get thru this yr. IF all the new guys learn to play with the guy next to them , or the guy behind them, that will be a successful yr. And we could win a handful of games, plus stay competitive in all but a game or two.
Why not? He has a good head on his shoulders. But we'll see how he plays from now on.
I would say if Kaepernick can go vs GB, give Kaep the first quarter maybe in to the 2nd... Give Ponder 2nd team reps 2nd qt and 3rd qt then let Driskel finish it out. Give Gab the night off to let Ponder prove he can replicate what he did in Denver....
The only way I see Ponder on the team in the regular season is if either Gabbert, Kaepernick or Driskle get injured and are definitely out for most or all of the season. If Kaepernick is healthy, Kelly has to keep him and Driskle shows lots of potential.
He won't be here but he will be a back up somewhere. Jacksonville maybe.

I laugh when people say Kap took the team to the Super Bowl when in reality it was Frank Gore and the defense that took the team to the Super Bowl!!
