I love it when a random pickup puts in the work and solidifies a spot. I'm really rooting for Davis now. Celek, Draughn, Davis, G Smith, Cromartie...they've all earned a spot and okay time.

Hopefully we can IR someone on the CB spot because we have about 9 guys worthy of making the team. I'm starting to think Ncommand is right and this guy will be on the roster if not starting. Brock, Johnson, Ward, Reaser, Davis, Robinson, (Redmond IR?) Acker gone, Cromartie gone, Prince to PS
Chris Davis and/or Garrison Smith could be this years Tukuafu/Wilhoite/TJE/Purcell award winners.. the guy or guys that come out of nowhere to make the team. To be fair we often see guys on this team who spend a year or 2 or even more on the practice squad eventually make the team. We reward our long term ps players.

I think Reaser would be cut and Cromartie would stay. Cromartie has been working with the safety group as well so he offers versatility. I think they could let McCray go even since Cromartie is a pretty good special teams player as well. At the end of the day I think versatility wins out with the last cuts.

You really think so? I like the kid too but there is a log jam at CB idk. anywho if it came down between him N Acker i would keep Davis in a heartbeat.
If he ends up on the PS someone other team will come N snatch him up so i hope they can find a spot for him on the 53 man roster.

Kept reading how well he was playing in the off/season and he he has carried it into training camp and the pre season games. Wish we never took Redmond and took someone like Braxton Miller instead in rd 3. Oh well

Different position. He's going to play the slot CB spot in nickel and dime...the same spot at Ward last year. This allows Ward to stay outside. He'll play about 60% of the time so he's basically a starter. He's only been beat once or twice so far...knocked down 3rd and 4th downs...near INT. He's played terrific in probably the toughest position on defense.

Could put Cromartie as that 4th safety after Reid, Bethea and Tartt if they decide to IR McCray or cut him. So you are right he could take over McCray's spot if he has excelled at ST since McCray did that well last year and like you said being able to play CB and S makes him more valuable. I don't know if we would cut Reaser. Really sucks guys on the OL and CB spots are going to get cut despite deserving a roster spot more than players at weak spots like WR and ILB.

Yeah we didnt really need to double dip in the 3rds/4th at CB when Baalke always finds late round talent at CB. Wish we would have picked up a WR or ILB but maybe those guys were his BPA's. Not saying I don't like the picks but I would have preferred we addressed the WR, ILB or even QB spot before 2 CBs in a row with how well Baalke does at CB in the draft/FA.
NCommand, Davis in the slot would make sense if they want to move Ward outside. I'm surprised Johnson can never get that spot outside as a starter since he does well against those big wr's and Ward is probably better off in the slot vs smaller quicker wr's.

I think the idea is that they needed specific corners for O'Neil's scheme. If all these guys progress this season, there won't be a need to look at CB next draft. Just scratching off items on the to-do list. They knew this wouldn't be a one year rebuild.

We should be good at CB next year like you said if guys progress like we hope. I hope we don't take a CB next year and we focus on QB, Pass Rushing OLB and a WR. RB, TE, ILB could be needs as well. I think OL and CB should be fine.
