I posted on the original Hayne thread after watching for hours his rugby playing days . His preseason play last year when he led the nfl in total yardage was touted by announcer Green (exnfl guy) as a special talent. I broke down what I saw as his special skills that nobody in the nfl has.
1 He learned to run without the aid of ever having a blocker out in front of him.
2 he learned to read the body language of people running at him
3 he learned that he could make imperceptible shifts while running at people that would leave them off balanced enough that he could, at full speed, simply run by
them because at full speed, he could not be stopped by an arm or other off balance attempt.
4 Once he ran by a man he was already setting up his next move because of his excellent vision, at times he did the famous, give somebody his leg and take it
back before they could react. Remember this was a guy who never had any blocking. We all saw the great running backwards at full speed, over his shoulder catch.
5 How did the 49ers use him? I saw on several plays, Colin was under pressure, flustered, not knowing what to do, in the same screen shot, there was Hayne either directly above him or below him as the proverbial safety valve. Did a pass ever come his way. nooooooooooooooo it did notttttttt,
6 What the 49ers did do was send him on a direct, into the line with no blocking, expecting whatttttttt? oh yea, he got tackled.
7 Did the 49ers ever lateral the ball to him in space??????? no they did not. When Harbaugh could not beat Oregon when at Stanford, the reason was
La Michael James killed them two years in a row, La MIchael was drafted by the 49ers and did they EVER USE LA MICHAEL IN SPACE, no they did not.
8 I am 70 years old, a keen sportsman, watching the nfl now for 64 years, I know a thing or two, Cal rugby coach ,25 time national champion, Jack Clark said if
they used hayne correctly , he COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING. Jack Clark had a history in football and is the most succesful college rugby coach in History
9 When you think of the skill set hayne has, the ability to run, full speed at men wanting to hit them hard, and all of a sudden making them miss as if by magic,
because you ONLY HAVE A SPLIT SECOND TO MAKE CONTACT WITH SOMEONE RUNNING AT YOU AT 20 MILES PER HOUR AND YOU ARE RUNNING
AT 20 MILES AN HOUR FORWARD, dudes that is a 225lb man moving at the equal of 40 miles per hour.

I remember you and olld mort being very supportive and having a very different view to many of the haters.

I like a great many others wanted to believe in the possibilities and hoped the NFL could work out.

Then Tomsula and Kap and the whole running back squad imploded.

On top of that Hayne did not cope with learning the play book.

And now with the weight of publicity and a new coach and scheme in an aging body after the train wreck of fumbling and playing as a bulldozer when he was used to being THE star he has gone all upside down on his previous statements.

It's like the monster called NFL bit him on the backside and he took of running back home much to our bitter disappointment. I have turned in to a hater on his apparent wimpyness.

He may have had the ability but not the desire to follow through on his dream.

What really sucks is one of the points you made, in that he could have shaken the NFL traditionalists out of their tree and brought something special to a game that has done little compared with other national US sports such as Baseball and Basketball globally.

Hear! Hear!
Rabbits/keithhr and OldMort for that matter
My sentiments entirely
Hence the frustration and to an extent anger at an opportunity wasted

It is not just Hayne's opportunity wasted but the next guy who comes from outside the US who has some potential will be looked over because the Hayne experiment turned out to be such a waste of oxygen.
The Bay Area has lost my favorite down-under athletes - Bogut and Hayne. (especially Bogut)
I am still a niners Fan!

I am waiting to see if I need to buy the pass or rely on the internet streams.
