If Kaepernick isn't in the 49ers long term plans, that means they'd pretty much have to RG3 him lest he gets injured and we repeat this whole process again a year from now, meaning his trade value wouldn't really be any higher in 2017, so why wait to trade him.

Denver has a demand, the 49ers have the supply, find the right market price and get it done.

I like your last sentence. They have a demand we have a supply. We in turn need to demand what it takes to supply them. Nothing more nothing less

Ideally they would reach a deal ahead of time and not announce it until the 49ers are on the clock but I don't know how realistic that is.

That's more like it. Keep other teams guessing and do Elway and Kap no favors. This is about what's best for us only

Yeah but if Goff and Wentz are gone at 7 I have to imagine we keep Kap and hope he balls out next year then trade him for a 2nd....

Yeah. I'm sure Clady is going to be shopped for a 3rd rounder to someone and then turn around and give up the 3rd to us for Kap

Yup. Unlike others I ain't worried if Kap fails and sulks because what difference does it make us anyway. DEN needs this deal so they should have to pay the premium just as anyone else would or we keep the merchandise. We got closet space in the back for the overstock

One side needs the other. No matter how in demand something might be, it won't sell if the price is astronomical. Both sides have to compromise and I think that compromise will ultimately be a 3rd round pick and a conditional future pick.

Its the best that the 49ers will do for an asset that is greatly diminished in value.

If they aren't prepared to commit to him, he won't see the field at all. Imagine if he goes out and gets injured and now they are on the hook for $15 mil in 2017?

True won't argue there is a huge risk playing Kap. But if we have him sit out a year his value will drop like RG3 to a point where we just cut him. But my gambling addiction is all about risk and not thinking about the downside until it smacks me in the face
We will see and hear the "he's staying and competing" stories next week after Chip talks with him

The only thing that is leaking is stuff Baalke wants leaked from what I have seen. Just read we are looking at an ACC WR for the number 7 pick...Boyd? I hope it's a smokescreen

Until he gets traded to Denver a few weeks after. If the 49ers wanted Kaepernick to stay, they would never have given Kaepernick permission to openly have fireside chats with Elway. Dude is Outie 5000, its just a matter of getting his contract reworked,

It is a smokescreen. There isn't an ACC WR worth a 1st round pick
