At this point, I don't believe anything the San Francisco 49ers say, especially when it comes to the Colin Kaepernick situation. Ever since Chip Kelly's inaugural press conference, they've been sending mixed signals about their feelings on Kap, and it's clear to me that they are just trying bide their time until they figure out a way to deal him while getting something halfway decent in return. I think that is the right move, but they certainly aren't willing to admit that publicly. Their comments to the media can't be trusted at this point. Not that they care about that; they are a business and if you start winning everything comes around.

I just think this stuff about Chip Kelly saying "I'm looking forward to working with him" is just hot air. When it comes to drafting, positioning and really anything going on in the offseason I just don't believe anything. I don't believe all the rumors that Kap is going to Denver or Cleveland or wherever, and I'm at the point where I believe that anything I hear about him leaving or staying was probably planted by someone for some sort of leverage.

The bottom line is Kaepernick doesn't want to be here. You can't have a guy like that on your team, especially at the quarterback position.Keep him until you get a good enough deal. I don't think you can put a time limit on it necessarily, you just wait until someone offers you something decent and then you take it.

In the end, if you have to give him away, you give him away. Once you've exhausted all your options that's the right move. Do it at the last moment before you have to pay him. I'm a firm believer that life's too short, and if he doesn't want to see their faces and they don't want to see his, it's time to part ways. In my mind, the Kaepernick era in San Francisco is all but over.

I don't hate Kap, but I don't think he's our guy for the future. He's lost the confidence of at least some of his team mates, with on and off the field issues and asked to be traded out anyway. Even if he did want to stay here, I'd still be dubious based on his performance last year, but when you come out and say you don't want to be here, then the feeling's mutual in my book.

Yeah that won't sit well with me , if he's still here

When you have a guy who doesn't want to be here and expresses so publicly, then you accomodate him the best you can. Otherwise it is just an unhappy guy on the sidelines or on the field and neither is a great deal for the team, nor the teammates. When he got benched following the 2 pick 6s plus two more INTs, his understandably angry comments of
"trade me or cut me...I don't care"...or something pretty close to that, and then add him dinging the HC on the day Chip said he looked forward to workiing with kap...well, it's pretty hard to recover from that kind of immature behaviour, along with a litany of other things.

It would seem that kap is better off elsewhere, particularly when he has stated he doesn't want to be here.

As for the leaks from the F.O....come March and April every yr in NFL, you find me a GM, I'll show you a liar. It goes with the job. And Radnich was right. FO is posturing, for an acceptable deal. Kap is certainly within his rights to get that $12 mil as per his contract...injury clause. So either we blow another $12 mil on a guy with no future here, or we make a deal wiht Den/cleve/NYJ that is for a pick as long as kap and the team can work out a contract. IF he gets offered less than his current $12 mil then he has to weigh is it worth it to go elsewhere and continue to play football or better to stay here for the money and probably not play. Hard for me to believe he will excel here if he doesn't want to be here. Man that was some bad moves on his part., He would have been better off with his usual, "no comment" like answer. Just shows immaturity, which i sure hope our draft team pays attn to when drafting in the future...and not just QB either, but particularly at QB.

One thing i think ridiculous, but have no way to prove, is that if kap and Den agreed to a deal (IF), and we dinged it becasue compensation was a 4th instead of a 3rd, that was blatantly stupid on our part. The 4th is subjective to begin with and arguing over a 3rd vs a 4th when you have a bigger problem...a QB, potentially a starter who isn't happy here, WTF difference does a subjective 4th vs a 3rd make? IF the facts on that deal were correct, then we screwed the pooch by not taking it. I hope we didn't submarine a deal because of a subjective 4th vs a subjective 3rd. ..Yet, that would be in keeping wiht our F.O. reecently. The FA pass still blows me away.

Or Elway could be saying I'll give you our 3rd, which you all value is a 4th because it's the last pick in the 3rd. I think the deal happens if they offer to add a 7th rounder. Baalke can't turn down a 7th rounder, he loves the long shot pick and one day he's going to find a starter there and prop that on his mantle

All the time, in virtually all cases i agree with you. When you are hanging out $12 mil plus having an unhappy warrior on the sideline ...or even starting, then i think the subjective difference between a 4th and 5th just flat azz goes away. I can read the comp chart just like you can. But here, you HAVE to factor in the gestalt. And the whole picture to me says you got a guy who wants to be elsewhere, and you may get him and his $12 mil contract and then he is one unhappy s.o.b. standing on the sidelines. That doesn't sound like a good deal at all to me and subjective 4th vs subjective 5th? screw it. Make the deal. Everyone walks away happy. And yeah, we got jobbed one round on our pick....but it saved $12 mil in cap money if you pull it off. And you don;t have an unhappy camper on the field, in meetings, and so on.

Mitpub, i agree with you. Snake in a 7th and that is what trent really wanted. An extra lottery ticket that he might just hit on. And well, there is the Trent brown story...and that looks like it worked out prtetty well.
