Let it go, man. Folks have been chasing a 4-3 around here for over a decade. Still hasn't happened. Though with a new regime, maybe you would have a shot.

I think our players are pretty interchangeable and can play any style.

yeah, hopefully ...I just don't see the need to hang on to the 3-4, if we still had Cowboy , Willis and Aldon (with his head on right) , maybe our D could fight their way back into the top 10 ...just sick of watching opposing QB's taking their sweet ass time in the pocket with no pressure from our defense

Of course. Our annual thread of making the switch to 4-3. I guess we'll never know until we get a coach that runs a 4-3.

I always thought we were better equipped for the 3-4 ...but these past two seasons and a non existent pass rush have me singing a different tune

You sure make it sound easy to find edge rushers. I don't think AA makes a good edge rusher and there is no one on the roster capable of playing the 3tech. The only DLmen I see ready to go for a 4-3 are Lynch as DE and Ian as the 1tech. Lol at jerking Tank around from 4-3 DE to 3-4 DE to 3-4 OLB to 4-3 DE.

Agree Bow would make a fine Will or Mike. Hodges can play Will. Harold and Lemon would have to transition.

I think the roster is still better equipped for a 3-4. Just have to find another OLB - not easy.
Not unless we got a slasher DT like Aaron Donald.

Yup. That's the 3tech I'm referring to. The current 49er DLs are too heavy to be a slashing 3 tech.
Lynch and Carradine would be a good pair of 4-3 DEs. Armstead would be a 4-3 DT IMO and could collapse the pocket pushing guards back. The other DT spot would be filled by Dial, Williams(if resigned), a FA(Wilkerson or Wolfe) or a draft pick(Buckner, Robinson, Billings or Clark). Harold would have to make the transition to 4-3 OLB and maybe Tartt could make it too.

We could try to use Armstead as a 3 tech.
We need to get Willis outta retirement
I never really loved the 49ers current 3-4, minus AS being a one trick pony, i always thought Willis and Bowman would have been better with 4 linemen in front of them. it does not help that growing up i watched the 49ers-Saints and NYG running the most dominant 3-4s that have ever existed. I dunno Charles haley and Tim Harris can do that to an impressionable youth.

At 6'8" he is way too tall and large framed. An effective 3tech can get slim to slash into his gap. Some of the best 3techs are 6'3 and under. ADonald is 6'0. Geno Atkins is 6'1. SFloyd 6'3. The tallest good one I can think of is GMcCoy at 6'4. Being short helps with bursting off the line and leverage against guards.
the first of the annual switch to the 4-3 threads.
