Jason Cole credibility, right down there. Way down.
And Sac I see no problem with him being a genuinely decent man. Show me where I implied that this equates in any way to coaching skills. In my view York hired him as a reaction to Harbaugh's abrasive interpersonal skills. I don't think York was looking for a yes man or a pushover, although I know Ninertalk now accepts this as gospel.
LOL. Yeah, Cole was the one who said Willis was considering unretiring.
Couldn't agree more on the "gospel" comment.
Look, Jed f*cked up. No getting around it. No excusing it. That isn't the goal here. The question here, and it's an important one, is WHY he f*cked up.
Did he scrap the team for the sake of $$$? Did he just get tired of fighting with Harbaugh? I think those are really lazy interpretations and are only methods to find an easy scapegoat to a not so easy situation.
It wasn't just management that had tired of Harbaugh. The players had as well. It wasn't going to continue to work. So why Tomsula? Jed has loved the guy from the start. When asked about Tomsula when Harbaugh was hired Jeds response was that it would be Harbaughs decision and that he hoped Harbaugh loved Tomsula as much as the organization did. It's not because he's a "yes man"...its because the organization has a very, very high opinion of him.
Even though it isn't popular to say around here. Jed WANTS to win. He wants it BAD. The problem is what it takes to get there. What I fault Jed for more than anything else was thinking that Tomsula could take on this job because he thought so much of him. IMO, Jed genuinely thought Tomsula would be great for the team...and in one aspect, he was right. The weight of Harbaughs presense was lifted and the players were happy...until the losses started to pile up.
While everyone points to Tomsula as the reason they are losing, do we all think the team would be THAT much better with Harbaugh this year? They were 8-8 LAST year and now they'd be down Gore, Iupati, Willis, Aldon, Anthony Davis, Justin Smith, and a host of others.
I want a new HC next year, but I think the kneejerk reactions that Jed is the devil are way overblown. Fault him for his decisions, but not for his motivations.
