Because now he knows that Kaep is not the guy and he was wrong all along. Maybe Gabbert isn't the guy either, but the guy has shown efficiency compared to Kaep.

Prior to taking this job he could have been hired as a HC or coordinator at some low profile college or maybe a coordinator in the NFL.
Now, since he took a job that he was destined to fail at, he probably isn't going to get many looks as a HC any possibly not even as a coordinator anymore.
