He is smart and has been around the game a lot since retirement, I would love to see him running the football side of things.

It wont matter because the ownership tends to treat most anyone that had connections to the Eddie D days as if they are infected with a highly contagious deadly disease.

Young would never want to give the hours it would require to be successful at it.

Paraag's equation says the position is not worth the salary.

Im not into brining Niners back just bc they were Niners with no regard for their actual ability to do the job..but Young would be perfect imo.

As i understood Phoenix's initial thread on the subject....which if you haven't read yet, you need to....there would be a group of wise football men, sages, i guess, who would get together , and make a suggestion for the guy to make the football decisions for the 49ers. He would then hire a GM who would hire a HC, in part, i guess, with consultation with the VP of football Ops. From there on, all important football decisions are made by the VP of football Ops...thus eliminating Jed or any other York family member from the decision making process. We all saw what happened afer mooch was fired. No idea who to hire, it was just like guessing at who would be a good HC. And as everyone knows we went thru a series of bad ones. Right up until harbaw....who was great until he lost his team about half way thru last yr. So the way is clear for the VP to go to town, yet, we have no VPof ops.

Damn, we sure need one. C'mon jed...do the right thing, or we will repeat 2003-2009 all over again.

All of this talk is assuming the perfect person would be chosen for this position. Bill Walsh hand picked a guy that looked like he'd be perfect for the job, and terry Donahue was a complete bust at it.

Brent Jones would be interested.

Why would Jed or his Mom and Dad want Young in the FO? He is too smart for them, they want yes men like Tomsula or Baalke.

Steve Young would be my favorite candidate as well. The unfortunate truth is his kids range from 6 to 14 and he wants to be around for them. I doubt he takes a serious role until his youngest is in college. His job is a cakewalk right now.
