WE HAD THE BALL ON OUR OWN 27 YARD LINE
1st and 10 - Kap to VD 7 yards
2nd and 3 - incomplete pass
3rd and 3 - incomplete pass
4 and 3 PUNT

If you go for it then and don't get it the game is over RIGHT THEN. You are giving the other team an automatic chance at a FG that would put you down by 3 TOUCHDOWNS instead of punting and still being down by 2 TDS AND A FG.

PUNT and hope to get a turnover is the best possible thing to do there.

needing 2 tds and 1 FG > 3 tds

OH
MY
GOSH

LOL

How about score after we got 2 turnovers from Russ? Or how about score a TD at all in the first 57 min of the game!?!
People complaining about a punt with 3 min left down by 17 points

In all seriousness - what's the difference between losing by 2 touchdowns versus losing by 3 touchdowns?

It's the point these guys are trying to make about a possible comeback with 3 min left.

IF the 49ers went for it and got the 1st they still would have had to cover 70 yards and score a TD. 20-10
Then get the onside kick and score another TD. 20-17.
Then get another onside kick and try a FG to tie or TD to win.
all within 3 min

which to my knowledge has never happened in the nfl like in the history of ever

Never mind the 49ers are 30% on 3rd downs and 0% in the redzone and have the worst OL and offense in the NFL.

Had a better chance letting our defense try and score a touchdown there.

I agree with this. There was no chance. Just get out of there and dont let them totally blow the team the f**k out. Your qb was already like a deer in headlights, the wide receivers were not getting open, and the oline was already going to walk around with a sore ass and a limp this week.

No need to embarrass yourself more, to many idealist on this damn forum. "ITS THE PRINCIPLE OF THE MATTER> NEVER GIVE UP. " or some s**t like that.
Now that we are 2-5 and virtually out of it, we should be taking as many chances as necessary. Losses don't really matter at this point, and they can afford to go for it on 4th downs.

so you think if they pick up the first down they would have

scored a quick TD - 20-10

got onside kick

scored another quick TD - 20-17

got another onside kick

get into FG range to tie or score another TD to win

all in 3 min

with the worst offense in football

OH MAN THAT'S GOOD

The score was 20-3, NOTHING is impossible. Shoot at least show the fans that you are TRYING to win and put the 49ers most hated rival away. Can't see how most of you people were satisfied.

I do even know football, well not as much as you do I guess.

BUT here's a thought, WHAT IF YOU MAKE IT, and the score is 20-10 with 2:15 minutes left, what do you say then, NOW WE LAY DOWN cause we finally have a TD?? No!!! YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!!!!

With 3 min. down YES you show your fans that you're competing to win and NOT just laying down in your grave waiting for the game to finish. That was the exact same reason Marriucci got fired for in the 2002 playoffs in Tampa, he showed he was defeated when the game wasn't even over yet.

I don't think any of us expected a winning outcome. But to not even try?? Why play the games past the 3rd quarter?

This punt basically said "Seattle, we suck. Please let us just go home." Which probably explains why our players were so giddy after the game to hug every opponent and say thanks.

THIS!!!!!

Nuff said.

It wasn't likely- I agree. But not worth a try? What good do we get out of laying down? Help our broken QB's confidence?

Who knows. Maybe we do complete it and it helps his confidence.

The team was mentally defeated. Am I the only one that can see this clear as day? they weren't going ot all of a sudden pull it out of nowhere. kap looked like a deer in headlights, he wasn't going to start slinging it. Best case you score a garbage time touchdown for a moral victory, worst case he throws a pick or two at the end and he plays like he did against the rams next week(ie: packers game), is that worth it?
I was happy I had the 49ers defense/ST and I didn't want Seattle to score again less I lose more points.

Even though we got shellacked the defense gave me 16 points by virtue of those 5 sacks and 2 picks of Widget.

Even if Kap YOLO's a TD on the 4th down play and has just over 2 min left you think they get the onside kick then score again !?!?!

when they scored 3 points in the first 57 min !?!?!

I like how after every one of your reply's you post a laughing emoticon as if you're so funny.
No. Even though the players gave up about 7 mins into the game. You don't give up as a coach. I like tomsula as a person but that's not what good coaches do. I don't understand why Seattle came in with a do or die attitude and a 2-4 record and we came in with a straight die attitude and. 2-4 record like our season also wasn't on the line? Wtf, well now it's not, seasons over.

Right so I guess, this is what this team is then a "Who gives a s**t we loss anyway" team.

Just awesome that just shows me how great this team will be in the future!!!

He embarrassed himself when he gave up with three minutes left in the game. At least try to put points on the board.
