Ug. 1) Kap: I don't want to over sell this because he had a bad day, but watching the game again really did help quite a bit on this one. Yes, he airmailed a few passes. Yes, he looked afraid to make a mistake. Yes, he didn't see some open receivers. ...but he didn't play as poorly as I thought on first glance. Some of the overthrows may have really been throwaways. One of the early high throws to Bolin had 2 guys downfield and NOBODY even remotely open. The one that had me the angriest last night (pass to Bush from the endzone that landed at Bushs feet) wasn't as bad as I thought as its clear that Kap had to let the ball go long before he wanted to but had a defender bearing down on him while he was standing in the endzone. Bush hadn't cleared his defender yet. It looked like Kap was avoiding both a safety and a turnover by basically throwing the ball into the turf. Again...I don't want it to appear I'm making the point that Kap is just fine and it was everyone elses fault, but he wasn't as bad as I thought. He did look a lot like the shell-shocked Kap we got against Green Bay though. He's terrified right now to make a big mistake and THAT is making him ineffective. He doesn't trust himself and is still trying to be what people say he's supposed to be on not just being what he is. He's gotta have the "f*ck it" moment that Alex Smith had late in 2010. The moment where you just stop listening to all the voices telling you what to be and just freakin' PLAY. 2) O-Line: Sweet Jesus. Every bit as bad as I thought. How bad do Thomas and Brown have to suck to not get some play over Devey and Pears? Right side of the line might as well not even be there. Kap struggled as I said, but my god the line is not helping him. You have a QB who is trying to learn how to pass from the pocket. Ya know what helps in that regard? HAVING A POCKET. How in the hell do you teach a guy to trust the pocket being there if it ain't there. Of COURSE his eyes would start to be on the rush and not downfield. Kap wasn't seeing ghosts. When you are getting hit when you hit the third step of a 3 step drop, you got problems. A line rebuild is in order. In the offseason I'd expect $$$ spent in Free Agency and picks spent in the draft, but they need to know what they have. They need to let guys like Thomas and Brown play if for no other reason to see what they have. 3) Hyde: Sometimes I hate bein' right. This is one of those cases. Guy can't continue to run like that. He's an injury waiting to happen. I love the heart (and particularly playing hurt the way he did), but you HAVE to protect yourself in the NFL or you are going to have a very short career. Frank lasted as long as he did because he seldom let himself take big shots. Hyde takes them on seemingly every play. The kid is a talent, so don't get me wrong, but I don't think we can count on him making it through an NFL season without getting hurt. 4) Aaron Lynch: At least somebody came to play 5) Broken Coverages: Its really getting old. I think the Niners have DBs who can play, but the amount of confusion that I see in the secondary every single week has to be put on the coaching. I can't remember the last time I saw guys running so wide open on a consistent basis (and I'm speaking about the entire season, not just yesterday). 6) Tomsula: WTF. You are down 3 scores and you are punting on 4th and 3 with 3 minutes left? Why bother even taking the snaps? Just walk into the locker room. So what if you don't convert. YOU ARE ALREADY DOWN 3 SCORES. SMDH. 7) Seattles in trouble: Not Niner related, but I couldn't help but realize that the Wilson got sacked 5 times against a team with little pass rush and was losing by at least 2 scores for most of the game. Niner O-Line might be the worst in the league, but Seattle ain't a whole lot better. 8) Receivers not getting open: I heard Deion say it at halftime when I rewatched it and Phil Simms said it all game, but those guys pretty much confirmed what I was seeing live. There weren't a lot of open guys running around out there. Now I don't want to say Kap NEVER had open guys or that he didn't miss guys or wasn't reluctant to throw to guys that were open...but there weren't a lot of opportunities out there. I don't know if that's personnel or scheme. I have no answers and it appears neither do the coaches. 9) Tartt: Actually saw him flash a few times there. I think Bethea is history next year and Tarrt will be in the starting lineup. In fact, I don't know the extent of Betheas injury (I was at the game and didn't see report afterward), but perhaps its time to play the youngster THIS year to get him ready for next year. 10) Bottom line on Passing game: So this is what you had last night. Kap rarely had time to do much of anything. On the instances he did, there weren't a lot of open receivers out there. On the rare instances there were, he was reluctant to put the ball on target for fear of turning it over. On the rare instances he was willing, they'd drop the damn ball. IE, everyone shares a piece of the blame on that one. ALL of them right up to Tomsula.

I don't think that's correct - what the radio announcers said about the sky high pass to Boldin. It was the proper read, thrown on rhythm. Everything on the play was good except for the throw itself. Complete butcher job of the throw.

I think the whole game can be summed up in one play. 7 min left to go in the 3rd quarter. Middle screen pass to Bush. We had three, THREE offensive linemen out in front of him, with two linebackers directly in front. All three linemen whiffed and bush was tackled by both linebackers for a gain of 2. They literally watched the linebackers blow right past them and tackle Bush. I think the team has quit, that play tells me they are just playing out the string and the season is over.

I don't that they've given up. You are talking about fringe players right there fighting for their professional lives.

I think they simply suck at their job.

Rodgers or Brady would have called for the snap immediately and made the throw.

Likewise, when a team jumps offsides against the Packers the oline is instructed to immediately hike the ball to get a free play. IIRC, the play automatically changes to a deep pass even if a run was originally called.

That's why I want the Packers offensive coordinator here.

Yeah it kind of comes off that you left room to lay blame elsewhere than Kaep. Dude is not doing anything to elevate the players around him. Taking delay of games, throwing passes completely out of bounds. Boldin is one on one with linebackers more than once and Kap doesnt try and take advantage. Throws screen pass HIGH to Bush where Bush has to jump to catch it ..1 yard gain. The little things I'd expect an NFL qb to do he no longer does..its annoying. Your game thoughts are always good ..we all love them but I wouldve loved if your first bullet on Kap just said "he didnt play well" ..The End lol ..

I dunno. It's a simple slant-flat combo and both the defenders to that side were giving a nice cushion at the snap. The throw to the flat is there for the taking. 1st & 10, make the throw.

Marvin, where are these open receivers that you speak of? I know there was one play where Sherman slipped and Kap missed Torrey, but there were NOT open receivers at all. Most of the time, our rudimentary plays sent 2 receivers out against 4 defensive backs. Where are these open receivers?

I was at the game and had the ability to see the whole field, unlike a television camera. Did you watch the coaches film or something? I completely agree with your assessment, aside from these open receivers you claimed were there.

Marvin I thought you nailed it on the head! Kap played bad and didn't help the team win, but all the blame can't and shouldn't be on just him... Just when you thought the line couldn't be worse then last year

Phil Sims was correct that no one was even close to getting open, Kap does have to let it fly though and let someone try to make a play at some point. I didn't see anything that other teams do to beat Seattle. Where is Ellington? quick WRs are what beat the LOB.

This coaching staff needs to go...

Those were throw aways, Kap said as much in the post game presser that there was double coverage the and he was just getting rid of it.
