I agree with Sofa. I would make oline changes first before I'd bench a QB. It's been my experience that when a guy gets the Yips the WORST thing to do is blame him. QB, pitcher, kicker and any positions that requires touch and feel require a deft touch when handling them. It usually takes a a few brights spots in their game to get them right. If you bench them it creates a mental hurdle that's hard to reverse. We seem to be asking him to constantly change and to his detriment he's listening. He, IMO, needs to say f**k it and do what he wants not what others think he needs. Truth be told I'd have him reach out to Harbaugh because that's the LAST person that actually had him right and he trusts him.

Agree. Kap has been the worst starting QB in the league these past 2 weeks, but I'd like to give him an opportunity to snap out of this funk behind a better o-line. Make that change first and see what happens. I don't want to change QB unless you know it's for good. Don't want to play musical chairs like we did in 2010 under Sing, that was a joke.

People blaming the o-line for breaking his confidence, and they are a big problem, but he cannot allow a bad o-line to completely destroy his game and make him non-functional. He has to have enough mental toughness and football smarts to at least make the plays he should make.
s**ts been going on for 20 ( or more then that if you count some of the s**tty work they did in '13) games now. That's a long time playing behind a s**tty line. You can only ask for so much. I'm not absolving Kap of his poor play but to say we should have expected any different is a stretch. We all wanted to believe he could make up for poor line play but it seems to have taken its toll.

I am not sure that getting Hyde more touches would have helped, he rushed for 2.5 YPC yesterday and has averaged 38 rushing yards per game since the opener.

It's a combination of things keeping him from producing.

Teams loading the box daring us to pass, and we can't do it.

Games getting out of hand early, taking us out of our run game.

Inability to sustain drives. Short drives = less plays = less carries for Hyde.

Exactly. What I don't understand is why haven't we gone back to what we did in week 1?? Multiple TE sets, with a lot of underneath routes. I know that the line has struggled with ZBS against 3-4 fronts but we have to commit to running the ball in order to win and that goes for ANY QB not named Tom Brady.

Its no coincidence that Kap started playing poorly when the Line went to crap. They should of did a better job picking up better linemen

Absolutely. Line was decimated by injures last year and Kap regressed. Line is even worse this year which is completely inexcusable after the debacle last year and Kap has regressed even further.
Kap admitted he was scared to throw in coverage yesterday and didn't want to commit any turnovers. Not a huge surprise after the Arizona game, but that kind of mentality will not help us win any games. Hopefully he changes his mindset this week and plays with confidence.
VD didn't play. Didn't see a 3rd TE on the field while I was watching? Vance is garbage.

Most of the time Kaps passing lanes where not even there. The DL crashes in so fast. Like at the goal line. He might have had a play over the middle but when they show the ground cam he can't even see over the OL. Those pick 6's got him scared to throw the ball. The times he did have a good pocket he sailed passes high or burned into the ground. Late in the game he had Bush over the middle for an easy first down and burned it in the ground. Then takes a sack on 4th down. Even if you get picked off you gotta put the ball up. Can't take a sack. Guy is shook, bad.

our D was better but they show their blitz's too soon it was easy for Rodgers to pick them up for the most part. The just load one side or the other with 2 LB's and leave Bowman alone in the middle. Makes it easy to call out those blocking changes. Aaron missed on a few plays and the game should have been more like 31-3.

Kilgore having lingering injury concerns and Davis "retiring" after the draft and FA period expired definitely did not help the OL. I'm not going to excuse all of the decisions made, but those two poured gas on this fire.

No doubt, I'll take the old Kap who threw somewhat on target 94 mph fastballs no matter what over the new Kap and his inaccurate lofted balls served up to the defense or 10 yards off target.

Agreed, as the boxing saying goes, go out on your shield and that's what he needs to do. If he plays like crap, at least play like crap trying to make plays. What he is doing now is just bad all around. I'm still holding out hope he changes it around quickly. As bad as it seems, a win over Giants and we could easily be 3-3 with the Ravens coming in town. His game against the Packers was a bit predictable, but now with EVERYONE including his own teammates questioning him, we will get to see the real Kap. Does he lay down and let this get to him, or does he man up and fight through this slump?

Yeah you should never admit out load that another team got in your head
Baalke is turning out to be Terry Donahue 2.0 whiffing at that many draft picks and ruining the franchise again.

I know I am not going to convince you otherwise on a forum such as this, but it doesn't make any sense to bench Kap only to replace him with Gabbert who has averaged approximately the same number of points per game during his career. Personally, I think that right now Kap is having a hard time putting everything together (mechanics, reading progressions, moving around in the pocket, etc.) That doesn't mean he won't get it together. The problem is, our offensive line might be the worst in the NFL which means that Kap isn't getting any help from solid protection or a running game.

Make my words, if Gabbert goes in right now, it is simply more of the same (if not worse).

That might be the case but having watched the KC line, I am not so sure...and the Chiefs are averaging 25 PPG while giving up a league high 19 sacks. By comparison, the 49ers have given up 14. 4 other teams have given up 12.

well said. Its kinda not hard to believe this is the make or break game for cap. If Kaep goes in beat the Giants. I think this feeling of dread might lift. If Kaep blows again he's very broken.
