FP: New season, new 49ers players, new uniforms. New Fropwns' thread! TITO! Que the sexy dancing girls! Welcome to The Point After with Fropwns! No need for a long-winded discussion or diatribe like I so often like to embellish and relish in. Let's get to the top five takeaways from the game shall we? 1. Fill in the blank. Carlos Hyde is ___________. The correct answer is "other worldly." 26 carries for 165 and 2 touchdowns. "Other worldly" or Carlos Hyde, I hear that is his real name, made a statement to the NFL. There is no reason whatsoever that we should expect this week in and week out from Hyde. But we are going to do so. In spite of all of our love for Frank Gore, we must all admit that the burst had left Frank some years back. What made Frank special was his vision and patience. Guess who was paying attention while on the bench? I'll give you a hint, he showed up in his finest for this black tie affair. Get it, black uniforms, black tie....never mind. Roll the gif! It was this dude who showed up in his finest for the black tie affair in an all-black uniform performing a sick spin move and posterizing a hapless Vikings defender. By the way, in this morning of head scratching across the league about how good or bad we were in what many are calling an "ugly" game, I want to add something to the discussion. This play reminded me of something. Something I have not seen in a long, long time... Let's be clear, though this will be taken out of context, I am not saying Carlos is the second coming of Barry Sanders. I am saying his spin move reminded me of Barry Sanders--the man I believe to be the greatest running back to have ever played the game. For those of you Niner fans too young to remember the Earth before smartphones and the interwebs (thanks for the porn Al Gore!), when we sought electric excitement we watched Barry Sanders. Well, we do not have him now, but we might just have something similar. We have somebody electric. Do you want to know the best part? We haven't even explored the possibility of pairing Hyde with Mike Davis. 2. Worried about the pass rush? JUST. STOP. IT. Enter the Mangenius! Look, I loved Aldon Smith. Loved Cowboy. Loved P Willy. But damnit, these numbers are not bad: 5 Sacks, 8 hits on the QB, and 1 interception. Pressure came from ERRYBODY. I'll let the experts break down the scheme and explain why they all have collective boners right now. I am just going to say this...WOW. THANK YOU, can't believe I am going to say this outloud....MANGENIUS! Yes, the game was ugly, but our defense made it UGLAH for the Vikings. Say it with me, UGGGGGGGGGGGLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAHHHHH! It won't always be pretty, but it will work. 3. Speaking of not pretty. Jim Tomsula is better then you, I, or anybody thinks. I was listening to The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz and they were giving Jimmy T the business. I think they like him, but the popular thing to do, when your popular, is to pick on the guy that looks like a plumber. By all appearances, Tomsula, who Garcia swears to god is really Ron Jeremy, looks like he should be standing in front of you with a pencil and pad trying to figure up how much it is going to cost you to replace your septic system because you keep flushing condoms down the toilet and not a guy leading the five time world champions. But guess what? His former wood splitting ass is right in front of you on your television with his defense splitting the Vikings on MNF. When he took the job I said then that I liked his story. Nah, I love his story. Hard to not like a guy who made it and busted his ass and lived in his car to do it. He is running the store now. Though, I was worried at first. I think he will run it well. 4 BACK IN BLACK! Once I heard about the new black uniforms I wanted one and ordered a Kap one--ballsy, I know. More on him in a minute. And at first, while watching the game, I found it a bit jarring. Even though I liked the concept, I had yet to see it in a game. So, again, it was a bit weird, but for some reason, I came around... Or maybe it was the play of Hyde. But once I adjusted, I liked them, I liked them A LOT. The team as a whole looked great. They were flying all over the place in these things. I can see where it might have been a little disconcerting, but they went over well and looked great under the night lights. And I am going to say it again, if we start to put together a streak expect to see a lot more of these jerseys. A whole lot more. Man they looked sharp. On a personal side note, I am declaring Hyde's jump into the crowd "the Levi's Leap". Suck it Packer fans. 5. 17-26 for 165 does not sound impressive, but couple that with 41 yards rushing and you have a solid workman like performance. I have made no bones about it, I like Kap. I believe firmly he is our guy. He has already shown it, but the most impressive thing to me is not his talent, but his work ethic. Those of you who b***h when he does not do enough should really examine how much time he has spent on crafting himself to be better. Some of that shined through last night--I bet Kurt Warner was smiling. Because for a teacher/mentor there is nothing better than seeing the talent grasp the concepts and apply it to his game. I fully expect Kap to have moments, and he did last night, where he regresses. That is natural. He will overcome his mechanics issues and perform. I also expect to see him continue to work with Warner or someone else the rest of his career. It will happen. 5A. And let's get it out of the way now. Trent Dilfer blew his load repeatedly on national television. In what was easily the most homerish telecasting ever, Dilfer lost his mind watching Kap and the Niners play. It was awkward, but in a good way. But if either you had to shower afterward or your kids are going to counseling today, I will understand why. But I do wonder if Berman was cussing his ass out during breaks for messing up the booth. Final thoughts: We ain't dead. We ain't buried. We ain't great, yet either. But this, my fellow fans, are what the 49ers are going to look like from here on out. Young, fast, explosive. Once they get the experience, clean up the red zone passing production, we might be in for a very special ride. Yes, the old window closed, but rapidly a new one has opened and it appears to offer a bright future.
