How can anyone even say this!!! I mean did we experience a 4-12 season right after the 2013 NFC Championship or something??

Everyone says Harbaugh lost the locker room yet Justin Smith and Colin Kaepernick says differently from most here on the Webzone.

I mean let's overlook all the injuries the team took in 2014 instead blame a head coach who supposedly was butting heads with the front office.
Well, what do you expect them to say?
you know that only holds true for those who say good things about the niners and new coaches. please try to keep up

But you guys continue to say he's lost the locker room, well show me then, who (besides the media) says he has lost the locker room?? And show me who (besides the media) says he butt heads with the front office??

Gee where was all this sensitivity for Dennis Erickson.

Where is this rumor that players weren't developed under JH and not given chances? Anyone have a link?

I saw development from the following players who prior to JH weren't pro bowlers or were borderline startin materials. Please correct me if i made an error. Thanks.

1. Alex Smith (Starting job in question, now a viable starter)
2. Kapernick (Raw QB, now the starter and took us to a super bowl with a innovative scheme)
3. Bowman (On the bench prior to JH's arrival. All pro now)
4. Aldon (Set rookie record in sacks)
5. Crabtree (Had first 1,000 yard season)
6. Goldson (Became more of a playmaker and probowler)
7. Delanie (Became a viable starting TE with excellent blocking skills)
8. Bruce Miller (turned a DE into a pro bowl FB as a rookie)
9, Culliver (Saftery developed into a very good starting corner)
10. Brock (Went from a late round pick to a viable starter)
11. Kendall Hunter (Had a fantastic rookie campaign and develolped into what looked like Gore's heir prior to injury. Excellent blocking)
12. Ray Mac
13. Brooks
14. Cox (Castaway turned into a solid starter for us last year and made many plays)
15. Carlos Rogers (Considered a bust but came here and make the pro bowl making tons of interceptions before age caught up to em)
16. Terral Brown
17. Anthony Davis (Wasn't as good as he is prior toJH)
18. Ian Williams (Undrafted NT developed into a viable starter)
19. TJE (late round pick looks solid
20. Glenn Dorsey (Bust in KC but came here and looked awesome)
21. Eric Reid (Rookie developed and was able to start from day one.
22. Borland (Undersized MLB but was a force, short lived albeit
23: Boone

There are probably more i am missing. But these guys were all developed well by the previous coaching staff. Just because Ellington or Patton or whoever people wanted to see out there didn't get playing time doesn't mean they weren't developed or benched in favor of veterans. Sometimes guys just aren't good enough in the NFL (AJ Jenkins, LMJ, etc...). I don't blame Baalke for drafting busts because that s**t happens. I don't blame the coaches for not developing busts either because, well, they just can't cut it.

People are acting like the prior staff inherited a bunch of all pro players and JH went along for the ride. Not so.

Looks to me like he pissed away the best team in the nfl 4 years in a row.

All that list does is show how good Baalke is at assembling a championship roster and picking the right fits for our team. Doesn't really say anything about Harbaugh giving young players chances or developed players.

Borland didn't see the field until Willis got hurt. Wilhoite was starting over him.
Brock never got a chance until multiple injuries paved the way.
Same with Cox.

Not saying Harbaugh didn't develop ANY players, just that he shouldn't have some great reputation for being a developer. Tomsula has been great at developing DL and assisting other defensive players long before Harbaugh got here, so I wouldn't give JH much credit for the DL success, to be honest.

So many of these players were already talented players that Harbaugh didn't have to do much to "develop" them. Baalke just picked them or added them onto the roster and under good coaching they played up to their talent. Reid, Boone (1st-2nd round talent that was passed on due to character concerns), Brooks (character/fit), to name a few.

It's hard to say how much Harbaugh did individually vs. how much his staff helped each position group, but I think crediting with all those names listed in that initial list is giving him an INSANELY excessive amount of credit.

The REAL QUESTIONS here is that will Tomsula be compared to George Seifert??

and what I mean is that, Will he get the credit when he wins SINCE most of the players are still under that of JH's era.. or will he get blame and mis-treated like George Seifert when all the talent is there but just can't put it together.

and when i say mistreated - i am pertaining to the fact that the management had guaranteed Mike Holmgren the HC spot in 2 years or so..

Solid question. Probably not though b/c Seifert inherited a veteran team that was self-maintaining by that point. JT is taking over a roster where the average age is now 25 with 4 years of NFL experience. And the motto is "teaching" (i.e. developing these young men).

We didn't win the Super Bowl. We were 8-8 last year. Don't put harbs on a pedestal like that.

I would hope that the dire media opinion of him and his team - I expect SF to be the consistently picked to go 5-11 or similar - will make it impossible for the credit to all go to Harbaugh if he succeeds. Because what the media is saying now is that Harbaugh, J. Smith and P. Willis were 90% of the reason they were successful in the last four years.

If anything, the team doing well in 2015 will be spun as lessening Harbaugh's influence ("maybe the team's players were the reason they won more than the coaching") and crediting the players rather than crediting Tomsula.

Agree 100%. If Tomsula gets us 10 wins this season, it will more than prove his worth as a coach.
I think the biggest difference is one is a proven winner and the other likes to wear jump suits.

Not in the NFL, so moot point.
