We are not even among the "rising teams". I love it.

New coaching staff new schemes. Some player turn over. There is a lot of unknown here. Offseason power rankings thrown out the window now more than ever.

Why? Because some hack at ESPN says so? Please, dude. Parroting opinions of the media (who also use faulty logic) to support your negative viewpoint is not evidence, it's just lazy. "See, this guy believes we suck, so it must be so."
It's not just ESPN but everyone outside of this forum who agree that we're going to have some down years.
The rankings they gave us when we had Singletary was right
The ranking they gave us when we had Harbaugh was right
The ranking they're giving us now..sounds about right!
No. When we got Harbaugh people were saying we would go 2-14 and draft Luck, went to the NFCC.

Our 25th ranking is justified if you look at it objectively. We just had the worst offseason of any NFL team of the last 10 years. We lost a top 3 head coach, starting WR, starting OG, hall of fame ILB, hall of fame DL, DROY candidate, our 2 starting CBs, and hall of fame RB. Then to top it off we didn't draft consensus BPA or position needs but rather Baalke's alternate reality BPA's.
Yet despite all of that I still have hope that this team will be better than we look on paper and Tomsula can be a solid head coach. I think if we have luck staying healthy we could get a 10-6 record and wild card spot.

I was underwhelmed by the 49ers draft, but think I'll wait until they actually start playing games that count to get worked up....don't give two sh***s about post-draft power rankings.

We'll end the season as a top 10 team. I'm not worried about power rankings a this point. They are usually very uneducated.

When we had Singletery the pundits always thought we would win the division. Hell, going into Sings first full year as a coach we were picked to go to the superbowl by a bunch of the media. I don't think that was right, evidently to you it was....

Here's my little glimmer of hope:
When Andy Reid & Alex Smith took over the Chiefs in 2013, I had this gut feeling the team would turn around and go to the playoffs that year. A 2-14 team the year before, #1 overall pick in the draft for 2013, they really didn't do ANYTHING well the year prior except maybe defense.
So with a last place schedule they went 11-5.
Now obviously we're not changing QBs but with all the talk of what CK has done offseason in some ways maybe we are. Reid had proven pedigree in the league but his last two seasons with the Eagles were not even as good as Harbaugh's last season in SF.
I really don't get it. I'm a huge 49er fan with homer tendencies at the proper times but I do not understand the super low rankings.
There's been a few offseason personnel changes but that can't be enough to derail a team. I wonder if Harbaugh stayed would they have pegged this team like 10-15th?
LOL.
Meanwhile we all know that if he did stay, we'd probably be shooting for 25th.
I got a really good feeling about this BS ranking and underestimation.
I've said this before and I'll say it again:
THESE NINER PLAYERS HAVE CHAMPIONSHIP PEDIGREE ALREADY!!!!! THEY ALREADY KNOW THEY BELONG TO WINNING FOOTBALL! IF VERNON SCORES A WINNING TD IN THE PLAYOFFS HE WON'T BE CRYING AGAIN!!!!
We're gonna smash teams this year. Gonna be great.

There is a lot to be determined with this team.
We lost a coaching staff outside of Roman that was one of the best in the NFL last 4 seasons
We lost the heart of the offense and the heart of the defense- along with pro bowl guard, an up and coming LB, and possibly may loose the most important person on our defense in Justin Smith.
Our offensive line has a lot of inexperience in Martin, Brandon Thomas, Kilgore. Not to mention Anthony Davis injuries, Staley's aging, and Boone doesn't like his contract.
Our better players of the past few years didnt have great years last year or are coming off injuries. So who knows if VD, Bowman, A.Davis, A. Smith etc. will return to past form.
There are a lot of young guys that will be seeing more prominent roles like Carradine, Lynch, Hyde, Ward, Johnson, Martin, Thomas, Patton, Ellington.
Also where does Kap stand in his development.
I think 4-12 with all the questions we have is fair.
If the pass rush can stay strong, Kap shows progress, Hyde takes the next step, and Cryst plays to the strengths of this roster we can be a 9 win or better team.

A) ESPN's Niners writer is a closet raiders fan and takes every opportunity (just like some of the posters here) to sh*t on the team as a whole. He's the media and will pander to the debbie downers because thats the group with sheeplike tendencies that are eating this crap about a full fledged collapse up before a down has been played. Last thing he is gonna do is try and speak up for the niners against media perception.
B) Its the rankings, who gives a sh*t! Anytime the Niners were ranked #1 they lost the game that week, anytime they were pushed to the back of the pack they proved the doubters wrong. Just more fuel to the fire, take care of business in the film room and on the field and be ready to say "suck it b*tches" when its all said and done.

LMFAO! The NFC West is brutal and our schedule doesn't look too bright but this is a stacked team that just needs a competent coaching staff and game plan and slightly better execution. Keep undermining us. Our players will LOVE the underdog mentality. There's a lot of pride inside that locker room. I can understand the national media perception but our own fans?

Exactly. This team is still unbelievably stacked and oozing with talent. If a couple of young guys make the "jump" and health is on our side we could do some serious damage. Let them rank us horribly, the best place to be is under the radar. Everyone is going to underestimate this team and it will bite them in the end.
On another note all my friends who are raiders fans and one who is a jets fan are talking smack already about how the niners are going to be picking in the top 10 next year. Best believe im waiting for them to eat crow on that one.

Yeah, i hope the players are reading this. This should fuel them for the season plus having a healthy team back this year. We also got younger & faster at some of the positions.

Then why did you respond in this thread? And then proceed to cite previous rankings from previous years as a point of reference?
