Ya, but we have Forrester.
Hands on balls when drafting the offensive side of the ball.

MIke McGlinchey is an 8 year NFL starter. That is not a D pick, even at 9th overall.

What grade would you give the pick?

What grade would you give the pick?

So we drafted an average at best RT 9th overall so D.

Ya....keep this in your back pocket. We have webzoners consistently saying how we invest in the OL and our run game isnt necessary.

Dont worry we are good this year. We piled up the discount Walmart options at LG and C and we have a gerriatric at LT.

Other than McKivitz who has improved over time?

McGlinchey was not average at best. He was a dominant run blocking RT. He just wasn't a shut down blocker in the passing game and his losses were usually UGLY but he's a high level starter in the NFL. We just didn't have the money to pay him because he wasn't a total stud and we had too many other guys to pay.

Jaylon Moore looked like a nobody early on. He filled in very well for Trent in his last season here and got good money to play for the Chiefs. He 100% got better.

Brendel got better. Puni is TBD but many believe the injury held him back last year.

Let's not forget we also turned Laken Tomlinson from a major bust to a pretty good player. Aaron Banks also got better while here. You can even make a case for Burford in some way.

There are several guys that have over performed here. Beyond who you mentioned: brunskill, banks (Internet guys may think he sucked but I assure you he didn't get a big contract because he sucked), we lost our starting C midway through 2019 and managed to make the Superbowl with Ben garland at center, Mike person, some others are out there im forgetting.

I understand and agree with wanting to spend more/higher picks on OL, but to claim out ol has been mediocre during shanahans tenure is delusional

Exactly...a RT that can only run block at 9. Thats a terrible pick.

The step change in improvement to those mentioned is minimal.

I remember seeing this guy get rag dolled every week.

There aren't many tackles coming out of college that pass and run block well. Especilly right tackles. If they're good pass blockers then they're usually playing left tackle.

If you check McGlinchey's pass pro pff grades aren't that far off what Penei Sewell has. He wasn't as sexy of a pick but he was not terrible. Charles Cross hasn't been that much better for Seattle until recently and that was with better team around him. Yet people can't stop praising Seattle for their drafting.

It's ok to say McGlinchey wasn't a homerun pick cuz when you're picking that high you do want a guy who is starting at a high level on your OL for 10+ years.

However you also can't say the guy was terrible when you have guys like Evan Neal or even a Greg Robinson who was 2nd overall.

Ya.....ignore that. Wasnt his nickname McWiff.
Foerster (all coc'd out) may have developed guys who ended up getting fat contracts (teams over paid), but it's not like they went from decent oline men with some talent / skill to real good

Most of them were below average and fortunate enough to train with Niners just to become maybe slightly above average at best

Credit mostly (not all) goes to Shanny / other talent to get the offense rolling and definitely not because our oline is doing a great job most of the time. I think the oline will look and perform better than last year, but still may not be anything to write home about (AGAIN)

I agree with the point that the O line player have improved / developed and have for the most part gotten better. I think Forester is a good coach.
I feel a player development has a lot to do with mental part of game and work ethic. They need to put in a lot of hard work getting bigger, faster, stronger.
I like McKivitz he has developed into a good player. Just look at McKivitz vs Puni. If Puni puts in the work I feel he will be a better player then McKivitz because he start out as a better athlete he was a better prospect the McKivitz. Puni was a third round pick McKivitz was a fifth. I think the 49er should have used 3 or 4 more second and third round picks on the o line. They would have much better depth and much more upside if someone gets hurt. Skip drafting Danny Gray, Tyrion Davis-Price, Jake Moody, Trey Sermon, trade down get an extra third and use the third on a linemen. Stop reaching on WR and RB and start draft O line a little earlier.
