Plus the way they lost was ridiculous, kinda last minute and OT

So glad Tampa won, now they won't be down on themselves... they can feel depressed later after they play us (hopefully)

while brendal is not high on my list.. there's really nothing he could have done there

No one even touched him and he ended up on the turf. That's bad.

His assignment took him away from where the play wound up going. Therefore, it was irrelevant to the play whether he stood up, rolled over three times or went for popcorn.

There are much better clips to criticize him for. This one is not one of those.

EDIT: I know some guys discount PFF ratings, however, their ranking system does give a relative look at where a player rates in comparison to others at the position. Hence, as of today, Brendel is the overall #5 rated Center in the league, and #3 rated Run blocker at 79.5. For comparison, Trent Williams is rated at 78.5.

Yes, his Pass Protection needs improvement but considering he is playing next to a LATE round rookie and Puni playing on one leg, he should get a little grace for a lower grade there. He was rated in the low 60s late season, IIRC.

We just gonna let Puni and McKivitz getting destroyed slide lol...

Puni hasn't been very good but he threw his guy to the ground while McWhiff's guy caused the incompletion by nearly sacking Jones

lol both Puni and Mckivitz lose almost immediately and pressures Mac, forcing him into the guy Colby was blocking lol... Brendel blocked no one though.

I'm to the point where I'm wondering if Drew Moss can play Center and he can't be any worse. Also, why not see if Hennessey can give a spark to the offense, Brendel is such a dud.

Without knowing how the design of the play is to work, it is difficult to critique a certain play. The only time a fan, without knowledge of play design, can make a reasonable judgment is when there is a clear one-on-one action.

For the record, last season PFF ranked Brendel in the low teens to low 20s among all active Centers based on their weekly adjustments to how they were viewing the play of the center. This week, that same organization is ranking that same Center as the #4 Center in the NFL.

Brendel is very good in run blocking but has struggled at times in pass protection. A good deal of that can be blamed on the fact that Puni is playing hurt and Colby is a rookie still learning how to pass protect. That can often leave Brendel in a situation where he is trying to cover for someone else or the double team is not executed correctly, or some other reason. All of those things are what coaches look at in deciding who plays and who doesn't.

This is exactly why you can't use a BS system like PFF to rate players.
Whatever the season's outcome, we still must invest in draft and FA players for the OLine.

It's been neglected for too long.

Not saying it must be a 1st rounder pick but IMO, 2nd-4th rounders need to be targets.

Not sure on Trent's contract timeline but looking at the best FA left tackles should be on the radar too.

You missed the whole point. As to the rankings; there is a lot of BAD Center play around the league. Last season no one was arguing with the relatively low rankings for Brendel. This season, the same people are using the same criteria and they rate him much higher in run blocking but only slightly higher in PP.

At present, there are only four Centers that are playing at a decent level on both PP and run blocking: Creed Humphrey, Ryan Kelly, Hjalte Freholdt, and Zach Frazier. Everyone else is just like Brendel - good to very good on one thing but weak on the other. Brendel is far from the worst Center in the league.

If Puni can get healthy and back to his 2024 form, it will help a lot. There have been a couple of occasions where he has knocked Brendel off his block by taking a poor angle. Colby is a train wreck in PP. Only 9 out of 79 Guards rank lower than him in PP. His run blocking is acceptable but he is hurting the on PP. When Bartch gets healthy, Colby will see the bench.
