Hey., Old niner dude, great to hear from you. No disrespect, just don't agree . Incidentally, if Pears or Martin, somehow one or both have an epiphany, and turn into relieable players, OND, I would be happy for one or both. Right now, for them to make it sure seems like both really need to turn on the burners...ie, they HAVE to get better. That's just another way of saying I, like most others, want the best out there. Right now, I don't care who it is. But both those guys must do better. I would love to get behind them...but need to see results first..

On another note, hope you are doing well. Good to see you posting, amigo.
I just think that last years coaching staff was inept and useless--no help at all to struggling players. Lets see what the new guys can do.

Absolutely no argument there. I've already forgotten last yr, the best way to handle nightmares. As long as we got a real HC, and it wasn't picked by owner, OND, we are in great shape. Also, Chip is acknowledged as a brilliant guy,as long as he isn't GMing. But as we saw, with trent, the two of them (also with gamble) put on a draft the likes of which we haven't seen in some time. Best part is Chip knows he isn;t GM material, plus he doesn't like it. He does like sitting next to trent and telling him what he needs , however....and those two guys did a bang up job fixing our up the middle both O and D. OL and DL went a long way to get better. And that kind of cooperation we haven't seen in ....honestly, I can't remember when.
I think much needs to be made of how the OL have not had any live full pad opposed practice yet. With so many unknowns, training camp and the preseason games under this new staff will likely determine whom makes it on the 49ers OL for 2016 and the future under this leadership.

OL more so than any other position is influenced by the NFL contact rules in the off season. Whilst coaches and front office are mostly going on first impressions right now, the real production of the players will be much more confidently assessed in a few weeks time.

Very true indeed.

Two groups of coaches refused to move Boone to RT...so I'll accept their decision.

The niners may be looking for OTs next draft, but for now they have Brown Pears, 2 rookies and several OGs with OT experience. TC may be open season to fiND the best mix.

Agree

We may get lucky and get a cap casualty from another team.

This would not surprise me, neither would a couple of other positions... I am actually expecting to see a salary cap signing or two, now that Kelly and company have had a little time to assess what they say in OTA's. and what they see during the first few days of camp, balanced with who gets cut elsewhere.

sorry, Doc, but I respectfully disagree. New coaching staff may see some technical corrections that might improve Pears and/or Martin.Even Staley has had games where he struggled til he corrected his technique. So lets see what what the new coach sez--after pads go on--before we make any cuts. And dont't forget Cooper at RT.
.

there is no technical corrections for players who are overwhelmed at the point of attack, pears has always been a fringe player and hes old and not getting any better

martin got whooped last year, the only thing saving him from getting cut is his young age

its basically going to come to pears and one of the young ot's that was drafted, pears is a goner

unfortunately staley is a declining player, hes been beaten a lot more then usual the past 2 years

Does anyone know if any of the rookies that we drafted have experience at center? I really hope Kilgore plays a full season bought he never has and is injury prone. I have no faith in Marcus Martin at that position based off last year.

I do not wish to even try to defend either Pears or Martin. But I do not agree with your statement that there are no technical corrections possible.

It may come down to basic footwork, but there's always something. I hope the new coaching staff improves not only talent evaluation, but individual player technique, communication, stamina, etc. Couldn't be worse than last year.

I wish Tiller could play center.

IMO I say play brown at some point...got to see if the big cat can play if not look to FA or the draft in 2017. Pears has zero future here. I also like Cooper not sure if they are working him at RT or OG though?

I'm hoping he gets lots of snaps in preseason to guage his his progress, performance and fit for the long haul.

If he doesn't have what it takes then we need to know sooner rather than later.

Agree with both of you and would be delighted to see Pears cut. If this is a rebuilding year, they don't need to play a 34 year old mediocre RT.

I would be delighted to see him cut as well. That would mean someone was better. And even if it was only a little better at first, rookies can grow. Pears is not going to magically get better at this stage of his career.
