As of today we are roughly $15 mill under cap.
Is it wise to try and spend it in getting quality depth OR can we save it for next year so that we will be really under cap and we can be major players in Free Agency?

Since we don't overspend on FAs regardless of cap room I think the best way forward is to pay off some of our existing contracts and give us more room for the future

Sign that one first-day needed FA. Then roll the rest of the $ over for next year to pay Aldon and extend others. Continue to work your analytics and bring in second and third tier FA's to fill out your 90 man roster while acquiring additional Comp picks. This allows you to be more free on draft day. A day Baalke usually picks up additional picks every year (or for next).

With all the cap room we have, I wonder what it will take to lock up Boone? On the other hand, I'm not sure I trust him. He seems like a dude that would holdout ever 2 years for more cash.

he will have to bounce back before i lock him up. i wanted to lock up a whole bunch of guys who took the year off or so it seemed,, he and vernon were right at the top but after last years fiasco, distractions and whatever else, i will give them all a second chance

Torrey smith lol. But we don't do that. We sign bargains and draft our probowlers.

This has been a worry of mine at WR but other than that Baalke has been able to find functional players at a lower cost so the team can keep some of their key players. Much of our cap comes from unforseen or unavoidable events--Willis retiring, FAs leaving. That's sad but it also creates opportunities.
Torey Smith might not have been an option if they had kept the FAs, and they now have enough cap space to make a move if someone becomes available via trade or FA. That's a good situation but spending for the sake of spending is not wise. I was shocked that Wallace was traded for a 5th minus a later pick.
There are still a lot of good FAs out there for the asking-- http://www.nfl.com/freeagency

Jets drastically overpaid for him. Dude is on the backend of his career.

Question:
While I understand we can rollover some unused cap space what is the limit? Also, how close are we to the spending minimum that was recently instated?

I would re-sign Aldon right now, because if you wait until the end of the year, and he puts up15-20 sacks, he will be exponentially higher
