It's possible. This all happened very abruptly. Somthing happened to push him toward this decision. Seems odd he'd rather retire than play somewhere else, but it's possible.

but if that elsewhere was dreary minnesota? and the FO already crushed your football spirit by sending all your friends to other cities? and you were already questioning your injured foot anyways?

sometimes i think the reason these guys play this brutal game into their 30's is not for themselves but eachother. willis would have played again in 2015 if he didnt want to let his friends down... but if u take away all his friends, well...

I'm trying to ignore this jerk, he keeps bashing you if you say negative things about poor old Jed and Trent, or god forbid you blast the HC and his staff.

"All of his friends" ??????
Pat has been on this team through much leaner and chaotic times.
I don't see it...at all.

If Willis truly wanted to play, but didn't want a trade, he'd simply refuse a re-structure, tell the Vikes he's not playing for them, and force the team to cut him, allowing him to sign where he chooses. Retirement is not the only option in this scenario, but that's what Willis chose. I believe his heart simply wasn't in it anymore. Football is a brutal sport. Takes a toll physically. He earned enough money to walk away relatively healthy, and he wants to pursue other things.

OP

I edited the title of your thread because it was not descriptive of the subject (Willis).

This is a really stupid thread

Is it possible that Baalke wanted Willis to either restructure for less money or trade him? When Willis was presented with the trade/restructure ultimatum he decided to retire? Seems most likely what happend to me, anyone else have any opinions on the angle?

FO determines we are overspending on ILB relative to our supply, see's an opportunity to move an aging/injured player while he still has great value and in return get some draft picks or perhaps someone like Adrian Peterson. It backfires when Willis says F*#% off and retires rather then being dished off to minnesota.

Wasn't there a rumor a month ago sayijg willis was on trading block?

Does his salary count towards cap this year?
