Patrick Willis HOF Material?

WTF is up with this poll? There is no doubt Patrick Willis is a hall of famer. 7 Pro Bowls in 8 seasons? Name me a better linebacker during those years? "Maybe" a prime Ray Lewis. That's it.

This poll should be closer to 100% and there is no question. The 49% who voted no are idiots.

Really surprised too. 7 Pro Bowls, and a five time All Pro, right? Played in a Super Bowl. I think he's worthy based on that, but time will tell if the media feels that is enough when he becomes eligible and they start looking at numbers, etc.

LOL. As i said a ways back, Pwilly is a LOCK for first ballot. I couldnt beleive this was an actual legit question let alone beleive the poll numbers when i came in this thread. Hell when i first came in here, the poll had the majority of votes saying NO. LOL. This thread...

I think it will be five years before he is eligible for the Hall of Fame. That is a long time.

Today my answer is yes, Patrick Willis will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame.

But, we will not know the answer for at least five years.

Him and Jim Brown had similar career lengths. For sure he gets in.

for a while the best MLB ever but that might not be enough with a small body of work.

Does 7 straight probowls get you in the hall? probably should to be fair seeing as only a handful have ever done it.

I think he gets in. At first I thought 8 years wasnt enough, but there are several players that didnt make it to 10 and still got the call. In baseball 10 years is required, but football takes a toll, so its probably more acceptable to not get to 10.

Gale Sayers played 7 years, Dick Butkus played 9, Jim Brown played 9, etc.

I think its going to come down to the fact that Willis was the consensus number 1 at his position for about 5 straight years at one point. He made the Pro Bowl in all 7 years he played long enough to qualify. 5 All-Pro teams.

I think the voters will recognize that he deserves to be in, and walking away when he did was just out of respect for the game. Would playing 2-3 more years of mediocre football really made him good enough? He turned in 7 of some of best seasons a MLB has ever played.

I read that Willis joins Jim Brown as the only 2 players in NFL history to make 7 consecutive Pro Bowls, but never have played a down in their 30's.

Seems too short a career to get in.
I can't believe the poll numbers. 49ers fans have to be the most negative people out there.

Luckily, most sportswriters are saying he's a HOFer....and guess who votes people into the HOF?

A lot of good arguments in this article....

"Willis finishes with five first-team All-Pro nods. Of the 16 other linebackers who accomplished that feat, 12 made it to the Hall of Fame, and when Ray Lewis is eligible, he'll make it 13."

+1

Two or three more Willis seasons and he was a lock. Now I would guess he will at least have to wait.

In my opinion Patrick Willis is the defensive version of Jim Brown. You may disagree with me, but that's my honest opinion. Willis was THAT good.

If Jim made it, Willis should make it, had Jim not made it, Willis wouldn't have a chance.
Top 5 MLBs of all-time:

1) Ray Lewis
2) Jack Lambert
3) Dick Butkus
4) Mike Singletary
5) Patrick Willis

Willis was the most incredible athlete I've ever seen at that position. Had he played a longer career, he would've been higher on my list.

Turned his back on football. I doubt it.

He'll do good on the church circuit in the southeast though.

I'm already tired of hearing peoples comments on his Religion, if that's the only thing you have to go with, then you got nothing.

It's BS that everyone knocks on his beliefs like that, like that was was the ultimate reason he retired.

I understand people are frustrated with the retirement, but don't be knockin on his religion or belief's, has nothing to do with that.

The guy made it clear as to why he's retiring. deal with it, Time to move on.

Let's just hope Bowman comes back the beast he is, and Borland continues to grow.
