Team wide competition is never a bad thing. Some context to his numbers last season in MIN. He caught 48 passes for an average of 15.1 yards per catch - not bad. He was targeted 100 times to get those 48 catches - not good. But QB play has to factor into those numbers.

I sincerely doubt that. Simpson is the new Baldwin.

Maclin? Probably too much $$$
Wilfork? So we want all our starting D-Linemen over the age of 33?
Cole? To do what? Be a backup to Lynch and Aldon?

#5 Ellington - only going into his 2nd year
if we add a WR in the early rounds of the draft like a DGB or a Dorsett, i don't think this an awful WR line up at all.

Never fails...
Niners sign a guy for next to nothing to see what he's got...
...peeps assume its THE big move the Niners expect to push them over the top.
You'd think after all these years people would remember Craig Dahl, etc...but nope. Fall into the same trap every single year.

The best thing to come of this signing is knowing the 49ers are willing to sign a guy that's smoked a little weed. Smoking weed != no class.

lol. who cares if Simpson likes to smoke the ganj. i'd rather have that than a drunk who like to beat on his girl or scream racist remarks. those things are not classy. you'd be surprised how many productive athletes smoke cannabis. practically the entire Showtime era Lakers did. gold medal athletes. Cy Young award winning pitchers. it's very widespread. the US is on the fast track for total legalization. get with the times people.
A lot of "productive" athletes have used steroids as well, both are banned substances. Also, weed is still a schedule 1 narcotic.
