Variables: Do we keep Fangio or hire another 3-4 guy or do we switch to a 4-3?

Keep 3-4 - Aldon in a heart beat. Suh makes his living beating his man off the ball or splitting double teams and penetrating into the backfield. That is not going to be as useful or available in the 3-4. The three linemen are supposed to hold their ground, take up blockers, and keep their linebackers clean. If Suh is constantly looking to penetrate, he is leaving blockers for the linebackers.

Go to a 4-3: Still Aldon, but not by much. If we switch to a 4-3, we have a lack of defensive linemen who can push the pocket back. Carradine and Aldon would be our DEs in a 4-3. They might actually flourish in that system, but it would make our lack of push from the middle more problematic.

we run a hybrid 3-4,4-3

we need DL that can get to the QB not sit there and get blocked

We won when DeBartolo was the owner, he didn't have class himself.

Do you want behavior problems off the field or on the field? That's something to think about. On that front, I'd prefer a few 15 yard penalties and 1 game suspension Suh will likely get for his next mistake over the 1 yr suspension Aldon will get for another screw-up.

As a player I prefer Aldon. He is a top 3 pass rusher, is younger than Suh, and at least dominant as his position. In any defense, an elite pass rush is the most important piece of the puzzle, so I wouldn't care if we switched to a 4-3. IMO Suh is just a tick below Aldon regardless of position anyway, and again DT is not a valuable as DE or a 3-4 OLB even if the talent level of each player was the same. My choice is Aldon, just gotta pray he keeps his nose clean.
